But... Those suggestions were for Crissa, not you!
Oh. Now you tell me.
Thanks, Dan. Felt so good to be able to go out and point the lens at so many different things. And the location is the Isle of Wight (the small diamond shaped island to the south of the mainland).
Back home again now. Sucks...
Beauty place. Looks like the rest of the UK, stock full of history. Yet another place I'd like to go someday....
Not a girdle...I hate that whole beauty=pain thing...
Oh, I've given up on girdles years ago, ever since I found control top panty hose.... *
.... um, did I just type that?
Off to work, friends. See you in about 12 hours.

We're still working on it. Crystal isn't 100% sure about the new place yet and wigs out pretty easily, but at least she's comfortable enough to hop into my lap or sleep on the bed with me now. Tupper is kind of the same way, though he's always been a very shy cat, so that's probably more his personality than anything else. Ashley got really sick last week and threw up a couple times. Also, I also found a wet spot late last week that scared me, thinking the cats were back to their old tricks again. But, it was apparently an "Ashley accident" and I was able to clean it all up nicely. Now she gets walked four times a day instead of the old two or three, just to be sure...
So far so good...

Hi Deb.
It's cold and showery today. :( At least we have some sunshine to go with it at the moment.
Yup, there are some great and historical places over here. I've seen Stonehenge but not photographed it yet. Stratford upon Avon is fantastic - I was at a college near there for a while. You need to persuade Andy to bring you over for a visit ;)

Stonehenge is a huge disappointment, unless you can get close to it. Better by far is the Avebury circle.

Yes. There's actually many white horses around. The most famous one is the one at Uffington, near Swindon.

The hills around that area are made from chalk, so they're just made from digging through the topsoil to about a foot down. After that, it's just raked to stop anything new growing on the top.

I don't know for sure. I got her from a family who found her as a stray, after they were unsuccessful trying to find her owner. That was in 2000, and a vet I took her to "guesstimated" her age at two years. So, that would make sure about nine now.

Bristol is about a 3hr drive for me. It still qualifies as being in the 'South West' though. I was up there earlier because we had to take Nathan to the hospital there for a 'Peripheral Nerve Conduction' test (we've had the results - all normal) to see if they could find a reason for him walking on his toes all the time. No apparent reason so now it's down to physiotherapy or surgery. He's currently having to wear removable 'splints' at night to try to stretch the tendons :(
While we were there, we went to Bristol Zoo. I've got some good shots but have yet to pp them properly. I'm just so far behind and with so much to do... Really I ought to stop keeping up in here, but I just can't bring myself to do that...

Nathan's feeling a bit sorry for himself with the splints though. They are pushing on his feet and the balls of his feet and making them sore. As he wears them overnight he's not sleeping as well as normal :(
Hopefully it won't come to surgery which is the last resort :(

Stonehenge is a huge disappointment, unless you can get close to it. Better by far is the Avebury circle.I've been to Stonehenge at least 5 times. Had to take most visitors there. Finally the 4th time or so I really listened to the tour teleophone thing and got interested. The stones are cool (go early in the morning), but even cooler are all the burial mounds you will see if you turn and look out from them. Lots of history there - in all of the UK really. Brilliant when society cares for it's past. Unfortunately this is not happening in a lot of the rest of the world...

When I was younger and we would spend out summers in Greece we could always walk all over the ruins at the Acropolis, now they are so degraded by the air quality (or lack thereof) in Athens that you can't get near them.

And yes yes! he does have big eyes.. Big magical eyes. There was some study correlating size of eyes/pupils with cuteness. Why so many kids cartoons and toys have huge eyes, it enhances 'cuteness'
I (just because I'm the dad) have to admit, he has it in spades ;)
The other night I got him to make one of those very typical nauseatingly cutesy baby giggly noises....
Ahem... anyway.. I'll stop gushing, now.

Athena my Uncle in Greece is a photographer, has been his whole life. He took that and many another photo of us over the years. He was taught how to take pictures by the army (concsription) and opened his own photo business when he got out. He had a wonderful monopoly on weddings and baptisms in his tiny village and the surounding areas for most of his life.
His son in law now runs the business and it is much more modern but I don't know how much digital stuff they do as I haven't been in years. Last time I went over was 1999 and they weren't shooting digital. He has always shot with Canon tho :)

It really is a great photo Crissa - your father with is confident stance and your mother with her casual beauty, your sister unimpressed with the adult-imposed pause in her life, you mirroring your Dad's posture and your brother expressing his independence with that little bit of space between him and the rest of you. I have come to dislike the term bokeh. Don't know why, exactly, but it has never seated well with me. Much more precise to say "blur quality" even more still to speak of the particular quality of the out of focus areas of the image, e.g. highlight shapes, unpleasant artifacts in blurred areas, the qualities of the disk from a pin-point of light (shape, graduation from center to edge, softness of edges, ringed-nonringed. etc..)

Nah. There was an interloper outside. He does this from time to time. even before the baby came about. First time he did it, it scared the bejeebers out of me. Woke up in the middle of the night to something ungodly screaming in my living room. Came to find out it was just him, yelling at another cat on the porch.

LOL...I suppose mine would, if I left the door open. They start "knocking" on the door around 7...but they go away if I don't respond  Ours stay in our room, btw. us until I turn out the light but then they have to leave (our black cat feels that if we aren't moving, he should nibble on us to make sure we're still alive...it gets old when you are trying to sleep....and Pacha feels that if we don't respond when he politely meows to get our attention, that he must stand right by our ears and meow at the top of his lungs...hence the banning at night)

Are they doing this to stretch out his muscles/achillies tendon Mark?
That's basically the idea, I believe. They are so tight that ha cannot really stand straight at the moment. It's been accentuated by the fact he's growing fast ;)
Mark I hope everything goes well for you boy. Your family is in my thoughts. {{{{{Mark, Nathan and family}}}}}

I'd have all of them. I have several more pictures, too. There was a Bentley club staying at Luxor in Las Vegas when I was there in March, 2005. These cars were all over inside the parking structure. I got pictures of about a dozen of them, most very old, similar to the one in the first picture I posted. That car in the third picture was brand new. It looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor.

Nice cars all, not terribly fond of the van, don't like that squared off look. There were a lot of antique cars touring all over Yellowstone. Never saw the drivers to ask if it was a club there on vacation/holiday or what the story was. However; I did get a clear shot of one. I like the old lines, grills and styles of the antiques. If I had gotten a shot of one on the road by itself, would be very tempted to antique (sepia) the shot.

For whatever reason, when I am somewhere there are cats they gravitate to my lap. Even when I show absolutely no interest in them, and someone else does, they always pick me. They are probably trying to convert me to a cat lover. :D

Channel Mixer. Put it into monochrome mode, put the red channel up to about 50-80%, the green and blue down a fair way. Constant down to about -35 or so. Start there, and play with the sliders until you get something you like the look of.
I then used lens correction to apply the vignette, resized, and then oversharpened to get the grunge look.

Yep... Darned darned fast!! About 5 car lengths in the time it takes to blink. Way too fast for threat avoidance on public roads, regardless of how safe the conditions appear to be.
