Just hanging up my coat and sorting out my bed space in the new thread......

Looks comfortable.......

Hey Neil. What are the bedrooms like in this place? Is there a spare one for a lightweight that couldn't make the top 20 of the last thread? ;)

 What happened to 72 hours notice?

ROFL!

Jeesh! I had just gotten my corner of thread 2 the way I liked it!

G'Mae!

HI Terri. I see they've got the bar fully stocked.

*polishes bar counter top* Hmm. Looks like the cleaners didn't do quite the job we're normally used to *sniff* never mind. Won't take us long to get this place how we like it :D

This spendy thing is way too addictive, good luck with the auction Pete.

Hey Terri, I've been meaning to ask you...how's the not smoking going?
Hey Lisa :) Thanks for asking, for the most part it is going well. I have had moments/days where I have resorted to name-calling. Hanging in there.
Time for another pic I think.

Meet Harriet, whom I met at the weekend at the Tamar Otter Sanctuary.

Very nice otter.

I shall have to fetch something new for the walls, myself.

I'm going to have to process some photos so I can put up something new too. :) I've got probably 100 I've shot since returning from Scotland. None of them live up to the vacation shots though so I have not been motivated. lol I've been going through old shots sprucing them up. :)

I'm still catching up in the old thread. I've just realised I can't even quote directly from there - I had to cut & paste this!

I am still working out the details I will know my dates after a meeting tomorrow. I managed to get out of going in October. I definitely will have to go in January but I think I will also have to go in late November or early December. I will be visiting a new area of India, for me, on both of these trips (Pune) so there will definitely be a shed load of photographs coming back.

Neil - as you're not off to India in October, how about having a long weekend down this way when Pete comes down in late October? ;)

Woohoo. All caught up. Must be time for me to go to bed. Yup. Nearly is!

I see I caused some confusion with the new avatar - sorry folks! I've been trying to catch up on here so I could let you know about it but until this evening it was a losing battle so I just got on with posting in the other threads. Then, when Belmondo split the threads, I thought 'what the heck' and just jumped right in again. By then, I think most of you had seen it!

:o Thank you, Ladies :o

For interests' sake, this was the building in my old avatar. Just about enough room inside for one small room. It's a landmark in Newquay. Originally, (14th century I think) it was a hermitage. Later it became a lookout for the Huer who was the lookout for the local fishermen, spotting the shoals of fish from high on the cliff. It's now a 'listed' building which means it has to be looked after and maintained.

I have a funny/cute little story.

We went to my niece's baptism Saturday, and I was taking the pictures for it. After it was all over, my mom comes up to me and asks "did you get some good ones?" Tevin answered for me.... he said "She doesn't know, she hasn't chimped yet."

I've gotta read up on flash photography and get a better flash, mine sucked big time today at this event in a dimly lit room. It couldnt' take two shots in a row and didn't fire more than it did!

Guineh
17th of September 2007 (Mon), 21:16
Crissa: More aperture = less power = less cycle time. (or, alternatively.... More ISO = less power = less cycle time) combine those two for fun combinations. That should help. Dimly lit (especially tungsten) rooms are very tough.. I can't get them right when I'm in that situation. If the ceiling allows it, bouncing can help (but slows flash recycling, because it requires more power), but if you have a wood paneled ceiling, that option is out.

Also to help flash cycle times consider NiMH batteries.

(edit: clarification; more means more open.. e.g 2.8 = large, 8.0 = small ..)

Skrim17
17th of September 2007 (Mon), 21:18
I've got NiMh batteries, the 420 EX has no settings, I was at ISO 1000 f/3.5 and the images are OK, some blown out. I tried bouncing and didn't get enough light, when it was pointed forward got too much. I have a sto-fen on it.

Yeah, high ceilings preclude being able to bounce. Blown flash shots... check your Flash Exposure Compensation. Mine (el-cheapo sigma) has a tendency to underexpose, so you may want to adjust this. NiMH, wide open aperture & high ISO, you should be running pretty low power direct... OOC, is it possible your flash is set to manual @ full power?

Nah. It was just time for a change. :)

I like the new avatar. You look Oriental in it...

Mom reads a bedtime tale to Christopher.

That's my favorite Christopher photo so far! :D

Wha.... You... you've NEVER seen "Guns of Navarone"?

I haven't either, but at least I've heard of it.

(Off to Netflix to add it to my queue...)

Nope.

How about a Chevy Tahoe or a Ford Crown Vic? Depending on the day of the week.

The vic would do it. If it was lowered a bit and had really dark tinted windows. And if there was a sawed off shotgun poking out the passenger side window.

Mt. Rushmore holds a lighting ceremony everynight. During the ceremony there is a brief history of the American Flag, a movie explaining the contributions to freedom each of the 4 Presidents made and the National Anthem. During the Anthem the carving is lit. Finally all veterans and representatives of any killed in action are invited to the stage to participate in the lowering of the flag. It was moving to say the least to share this moment with veterans from WWII, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam, and Iraq. Several of the veterans are lined up to fold the flag after it has been loaded.

We are now in Cody, WY and going into Yellowstone tomorrow.

Glad you are enjoying the e-cards and are pardoning our limited ability to PP.

I'm so jealous! The closest I've ever come to Mount Rushmore was a few years ago when I visited the grave of Gutzon Borglum. He's the sculptor that created Rushmore. He's buried here in Southern California.
