They both have gorgeous voices, dad is a baritone mom a soprano. My dad doesn't sing too much these days, Parkinson's often affects your throat. My mom was actively singing until just a few years ago, they are no spring chickens. Dad is 81, mom is 73.

My mom sang professionally with the New York City Opera, dad realized he wasn't going to make it big and got a job in sales when we were little and made a nice living for us all. But he had a gorgeous voice.

Deb, experimenting with restaurants is fun, we have found lots of neat places this way. We sometimes just ask some of our friends for ideas from new places they have been to, and liked. I know some who go to the same restaurant and order the same food all the time because it is safe, BORING. ;)

We'll do this, too. Sometimes we'll go to the same restaurant over and over, but we'll shake things up while we're there. One time, I ordered my favorite cheeseburger, but I ordered the cheese under the burger, just for the change.

Well when I go to a resturant just for fun I will order a cheese burger without the cheese and just ketchup and tell the waitress to make sure that there is no garden on it or we will have to dial 911 because I am allergic to green stuff. That always gets them going.

Even though that tube was bothersome, just be thankfull you did not have that tube in longer than that. I know a few folks who have had too have one in for long periods of time.
I had a tube down my nose sucking everything from my stomach for 9 days after my horse fall. I begged the doc to have a little Gatorade and he said sure. I would take a sip and a a second later the tube would fill with orange as it got sucked out:rolleyes:

It's going great.
We went to the Wild Animal Park yesterday, and just lounged around and did some walking at LaJolla beach and Mission beach today.
Tomorrow is Sea World.

We are tired today... for lounging around, we sure did a lot, LOL. The kids did some boogie boarding for a few hours, even though the water was FRIGID. Well, at least I thought it was frigid, lol.

I'd never been to LaJolla before. It's very very pretty. I think it's the first time that I've ever seen the Pacific coast that clear and gorgeous. The water was clear enough to see the bottom. The tide pools were awesome.

The kids (Marian especially) are all looking forward to meeting all of you.
They were real disappointed when meeting you this week didn't work out.

My brother is doing much better, eating good and getting some exercise. He rode his bike over here last weekend for the first time since crashing it 3 1/2 months ago. Still skinny though, up to 157 on a 6-4 frame. He hopes to get back to 180 by the end of winter.

Do you mean health stories like getting canker sores when I was immunio suppressed? I literally had a whole mouth full of them (read: hundreds), with no immune system they spread like wildfire, sure was tough eating. ;)
Hi, All, no time to catch up.... it's our anniversary, so I'm not here.

But here's the TR... see youse laters.

Cool, been thinking about one too, but think I would rather go for the 40D upgrade first. We'll see. Let us know how you like it.
If anyone is interested I finished the gallery from the steeplechase I shot the other week.
It is here (http://shortwave5.smugmug.com/gallery/3592639#206646480)
Some great shots in there Zane, that would be a blast to shoot. I got a good chuckle when I saw the riderless horse doing the jump. :D

Cool, let us know how it works out for you.

Hi Lonnie glad to see ya out. Leyla kept wanting to get different colors and watch them get sucked

Funny, I would want to do the same thing. "Hey lets try...."

Looks good, Zane. You got a little sensor slurm there, though.

Curt is going to invest in a slurm removal system after cleaning up some of the landscape shots from last month. The rocket just doesn't move some of those pesky little spots. He thinks he wants to go with that tacky kind, versus the brush kind. His reasoning is if anything is gritty you lifting it up and off and not sweeping it across the sensor causing the potential for scratching the sensor.

Zane, nice shots from the Steeple Chase. The tack is interesting and I wonder if you would have gotten that nice sheen to the horses' coats in a lower light. I like it when the glisten.

Lonnie, great bio on Ashley. You were lucky to have found each other and share your adventures.

Good Morning to All

Another fun day in store in Cow Town. I have already got a ton of work done, now just have to go to a site meeting where we are just beginning excavation today.

Then..........Arghhhhhhh..........I guess I am going fabric shopping wife the wife for bedroom stuff, bed coverings, drapes and the such. Not likely to be great fun for me, but Lisa for some reason does not like it when she goes out on her own, spends a bunch of time, then brings samples home only for me to critique them, go figure. :p

We are having a bunch of friends over for dinner tonight and need to plan a menu and shop. That combined with yard work should keep me hopping today. Not much time to play here. :)

Becky, I use the swabs all the time to clean the sensor with no issue, too many folks worry too much. The sensor is covered by a protective film anyway. I can't believe you have gotten away with not using more than a blower this far. :)

Always a tough call that. I tend to trust Ali's judement on such things and let her go off and choose by herself. It's rare that I'll stick my nose up at her choices (since if I do, I'd have to put the effort into finding a replacement).

We've done it all. The system that I like always starts with the blower, then the Arctic Butterfly, which is that brush thingy. We also have the Sensor Kleen which is like the lenspen, but for sensors. Both of those work great.

We've done the wet swab thing, and I did not like that at all. Not recommended.

As you probably know, and I'm just going to ramble on and on here, but when you clean the sensor, you're not really cleaning the sensor, but a piece of optic glass that is over the sensor. That glass , or film, I can't remember which, is there to protect the sensor, and is pretty durable stuff. People are a lot more scared of cleaning "sensor slurm" than they should be.

I did the swab thing once. I had no trouble or complaints with it. It was an awful lot easier than I had been expecting. I noticed when working on the shots from last month's trip to the L.A. Fair that I might have to do it again now.

I used a system Athena recommended. I don't remember the name or the URL of the web site I ordered it from, but I could check that when I get home from work.

Checking in again, kinda slow on here today.

And now, I must go prepare for partying. :)
The fare tonight will be kept simple, rib-eye roast on the BBQ, grilled princess potatoes, grilled asparagus, spinach salad, along with Yorkshire pudding. Lisa is whipping up a couple hors d'oeuvre's too.

Dessert will be gingerbread (the real thing, not cookies) with a raspberry pear sauce.

And there is the slight possibility we will imbibe in a bit of wine, scotch, port and wobbly pops. :p

Awwwww didums. We will have some shots, weather permitting, next weekend when Aiden comes to entertain his Gams.:D:D:D:D

We have burned 80 CD's for Babes In Toyland the all school musical we shot on Tuesday. We will be burning 30 CD's for 101 Dalmations. Curt did look into the CD duplicators and decided if we had 100 CD jobs more than once a year, we would make the investment. For now, we will use the burner on the computer. Don't remember if I told you Curt trashed our laptop last week when he tripped over the power cord sending the laptop flying. They don't take to being airborne to well, at least not the landing part. So, my nephew had his old one for sale, we bought it and doubled the memory, by taking out the drive in the smooshed one and installing in this one. So, I'm finally able to learn how to use my tablet now that I have a machine that doesn't freeze up with it and enough power to have some graphic software. This will work well with some of the stuff I do where I don't need accurate color just the power to do graphic enhancements.

We'll see if I like the tablet capabilities or learn like Athena and Lonnie that I do pretty good with the mouse.

Oh, had for dinner, it is Cat's Big O'mess recipe. The cool fall air screams comfort food tonight. For those of you that like specey spicey, I highly recommend Cat's recipe. It has Kielbsa, Green Peppers, Onions, Sweet 'n Sour Sauce, Jalepeno, Tobasco, and is yummy served over rice.

What are you going for?

Jamie Holladay
13th of October 2007 (Sat), 16:48
I did not crop the photo much. I straigtened the horizons, which were not crocked to begin with as the car was going up hill I just thought it would lool a little better level. The shot is basically a "missed" one.
A. I did not get all of the car.
or
B. I got too much of the car.

Since I have only cropped it slightly, I could crop it a bit more and crop more of the front off and bring the right edge closer to the windshield. I was trying to get tight shots with the 500 which I was not confortable with and missed the majority of them. So know I am trying to salvage what I have.

Here are some of the first shots from Wool's wedding.... A real quick PP on these, I just wanted to get them posted real quick. You know how it is with weddings, everything goes so fast.

1. When Wool woke up this morning. Hey, when I take on the responsibility of a wedding photog, I chronicle everything!

http://PuddlePirate-Photography.smugmug.com/photos/207620569-L.jpg

2. The bride getting ready. I had to use a macro lens for these shots.

http://PuddlePirate-Photography.smugmug.com/photos/207620637-L.jpg

3. The bride with her bridesmaids. The one to the right is Mo(o). I goofed up on the shot. I might have another that I took, but it'll take some time to find it.

http://PuddlePirate-Photography.smugmug.com/photos/207620663-L.jpg

4. A shot of the bride alone in her dress. I kinda blew out the highlights in the train, but the rest of the dress turned out OK I think.

http://PuddlePirate-Photography.smugmug.com/photos/207620692-L.jpg

5. And the required Groom and Groomsmen shot. Luckily, we all had sunglasses! It took some time for the Chief to get his Tommy Bahama tux dry cleaned to his satisfaction.

http://PuddlePirate-Photography.smugmug.com/photos/207620608-L.jpg

As I finish the shots of the wedding and the reception, I'll post them here. At the end, I will post the link. Maybe even make a wedding album for them....

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

OK, as many of you know, our daughter is getting married in a couple of weeks and, on top of that, I've got some other stuff that needs to be done in that time, both at work and here at home. I'm telling you this because there's going to be a slight scheduling change in regards to TR....

This upcoming week, October 15-19, I'm going to do a Wool's Wedding Week, in which I plan to post various "shots" of Wool's wedding with running commentary. There will be about 5 "shots" per day. It'll be fun, honest.

After that, I'm going to take a couple of weeks off altogether from TR because of the Tif's wedding and family that will be in town.

Honestly, I won't have time to do TR justice.

We're at a good break in the Adventures with Jim series right now... the next strip is when they actually come upon the POW camp and the adventure really takes off.

I hope you can understand.... *flinches*

Thanks.

Most likely west Texas ... They were explaining why we couldn't remove the pumpkins from the vine at a "Pumpkin Patch". It has something to do with the night-time temperatures not being cool enough...
