Sorry about not getting a post card to you all yesterday, Pony Express is a bit slow out here, you know.

Actually we can't get a decent signal in our room and have to come to the lobby to connect, by the time we figured this out last night, I was already comfy cozy in my jammies. Up at 4:15 AM this morning as we wanted to get the best morning light we could for some pictures today. Plan to do the same tomorrow.

This is a beautiful area, getting lots of wildlife shots, except the bull elk and wolves are being elusive from us so far. So and captured a cow elk yesterday tracking collar and all. Days start out in the 30's and climb to near 60 F. We layer and peel as the day wares on. Yesterday and last night several areas received a dusting of snow that melted off by the time we left this evening. Managed to get a nice landscape with a dusted mountain last evening.

Won't be able to catch up much tonight. I'm assuming today is Pirate Day judging by the sudden Arggghhhhhhhh Avatar's I've seen.

So yesterday's post card:

Lookie here what I found fer ye single pirates of POTN on the pirate site:

Top Ten Pickup lines for use on International Talk Like a Pirate Day
10 . Avast, me proud beauty! Wanna know why my Roger is so Jolly?
9. Have ya ever met a man with a real yardarm?
8. Come on up and see me urchins.
7. Yes, that is a hornpipe in my pocket and I am happy to see you.
6. I'd love to drop anchor in your lagoon.
5. Pardon me, but would ya mind if fired me cannon through your porthole?
4. How'd you like to scrape the barnacles off of me rudder?

Ok... I get these weird 'thought pattern' things going. One thing leads to another then to another then to another.... and eventually I'm not thinking about anything even remotely close to what I started with.
Anyone else do that?

Anyway...

Has anyone here ever seen "The Last Unicorn"?
It was one of my favorite movies as a young girl, and I admit to still really liking it. The animation is horrible (by today's standards)
and the music is.... different. But I just love it.

And that thought came from (are you ready?) The Beatles.

Beatles: English
Accent: Irish
Irish Rovers: the Unicorn Song
Unicorns: The Last Unicorn Movie

Yeah. From Beatles to animated cartoons about Unicorns.
I might need help.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

I remember one night when my best friend's (at the time) husband and Dan were off to a pastor's conference. She stayed the night at my house and I read her (and Tif) the Telltale heart. Neither of them had heard it before and when they kept me up all night because they were scared, I rather regretted it :lol:

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.

The Tell-Tale heart was what got me first interested in Poe.

oh my gosh...my family gives me the worst time about that movie. I've loved it since I was a kid but I WON'T watch it because the last time I did, I started crying at the opening credits and never stopped, through the whole movie. They were worried about me (I was sobbing...not crying...but sobbing) and tried to shut it off several times. That was 12 years ago...haven't seen it since. And swore off sad movies all together after that.

I have a story to share there.

Joshua read that book a few years ago. (when he was about 10 or so) He was REALLY REALLY into it. you know, one of those 'read while you're brushing your teeth' , 'put the book down, it's dinner-time' type things.
He would read it at the bus stop.

I saw that he was getting near the end, and I told him I didn't want him taking it to school anymore. Made up some excuse about being worried that he was reading during class.

I didn't want him to not be home when he got to the end. I couldn't bear the thought of him being at school when he got to that part.

He sobbed.

Broke my heart.

But he loved it so much he has read it 3-4 times since then, and looked up all other books by that author.

Keep in mind D.C. school teachers are union workers and went on strike in the middle of the school year to get higher pay. I have nothing good to say about them.

I've never done well with sadness. I don't know if either of you remember "Kimba the White Lion" cartoon but when it first came on, when I was a child...in the very first episode his mother dies. I started crying so hard (sobbing on the floor of our living room) my mother came running out from the back and she (to this day) said it took her an hour to calm me down and find out why I was crying.

Needless to say, I moderate my environment to avoid anything sad as much as possible.
