WOW!! Excellent choice!! When did you buy it?

I've never found ANYTHING wrong with that lens. It would take a lot to make me part with it. (I've even been using it with a 2x tc on the M3 with good results!)
A TC is in the near future for me :). (1.4 of course I am a lowly peasant with the 30d :lol:;)) I ordered it on Sunday.

actually, I used the 300 w/the 1.4tc on the 30D all the time for birding. That combo had much better iq than my old 100-400.

Yea, I can see why. This lens is crazy sharp.

I decided that 300mm is a good length for sports and with a tc i get 420mm IS (nice for those low light standing animal and other shots) So I dunno I hope it will work out for me.

Hmmm.... for landscapes from now on I will rely on optics and bracket to deal with DR. :-D

Really tempted to get a set of Singh-Ray GNDs when I get my 10-22... I believe they aren't plexiglass like the ones I have now... I don't like plexiglass...

From a PP standpoint - that image was basically right out of the camera. I boosted saturation from 0 to 5 and that was it.

It's "organic glass". They're all organic glass. After I dropped my cokins a couple of times without problems I'm starting to like organic glass a lot better than real glass (*SMASH*!)

You're right about using optics to control DR. HTP is now off except in dynamic situations where I can't Cokin it.. there aren't a lot of those.

Grrr.... nobody around to advise me... that is a heck of a price for that lens... I could get it now, then sell my 400mm off.... oh so bloody tempting...

What advice do you want? You KNOW we will beat the drum for you and chant DO IT DO IT DOIT DOITDOITDOITDOITDOIT!!

URL plz k thx!! ;)

Don't know why you'd say that. It's a 25% increase....that's it. I had a 500 for a while, and rarely used it. If I really needed the length, the 300/2.8 with either a 1.4 or 2X TC gave me all the versatility I ever really needed. IQ didn't suffer much with the TCs either. I bought the 600 because I could:o, and now wish I'd gotten the 400/2.8 instead.

Sell 600 and buy 400/2.8? :D

How much are you selling?

Thanks perm, I decided I worked my butt of this summer and didn't really buy anything for myself and I felt I could justify this one with everything and how much I am working during school this year...

So without further ado (It has been hard being quiet about this...)

Obligatory box shot... Since today is the only day this week the ducks are absent from my pond .

Dude, AWESOME!!!!! Congratulations!!

Interesting.. normally, a decent copy of the 1-4 should be sharper at 400 than the 300 with 1.4x TC: yes, there is that much of a difference.. (mine sure is, that's how the 300/4 ISL got knocked off its perch) your 1-4 might be suspect.

:D show us some pics when you get them.

Canon's got some good L zooms though. Your 70-200 should have already hinted at what was to come. A good 1-4 can rival the 300 (except in aperture and bokeh, but that's the price we pay for the zoom). I loved the 300 though, it was a special prime: for someone who usually doesn't like primes, that's SOMETHING!

Not bad, looks like you got a good copy. I would rate yours very sharp at f/1.8, which the two copies I shot (and one of which I owned) were NOT. At f/8 it had better be superb.. I have a 24-105 which has IS on top of f/8 ;)

Yeah homework sucks. That was the thing I hated most about school. You never knew when your day ended.. most days IT DIDN'T. I take work home much less when I'm in the industry..

It's actually good that you're impressed all over again by the new lens. It gets harder and harder to impress people time and time again after they've gotten used to the good stuff. However, liking it goes a long way to keeping it.. see my 40D.. :)

Also for the record, every time I see a Permie post now I think it's Lonnie. I guess I only glance at the colors.

yea! Now I can go to bed again once the excitement wears off.

I like Puddle's camo gear! Pirates are big deals in my family. Next year for Halloween Christopher is going to get a parrot costume and dress Bean as a pirate and let him ride on his shoulder.

Why does Apple tease me so??!!

I ordered the new iPod (iTouch) on 9/14.

This is my order status:

Ships by: Sep 28
Delivers by: Oct 2 - Oct 3

Why do they throw that "by" word in there if they're not going to ship it until Sep 28?!

They taunt me!!
