It's all Calicokat's fault I have a post count like this! If he had never started the 300/2.8 IS thread, we would never have met Permagrin, started RRTP and everybody else!!  :p :p ;)

YYYYYYYYYYYESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally fixed my "Home" and "End" keys on my Mac!

These little quirks really annoy me.. every other operating system, including Windows and various versions of UNIX, Linux, Solaris, and just about everything else, has proper Home/End bindings. Thankfully there are patches.. very cool!

The Mac's got a lot of positives going for it but some of the annoying things really need to be dealt with, and well, they are. So it's all good.

Scotlet.. that was the thread where it all began. We had 16 pages discussing vodka.

MOOO!!!

All this talk about computers makes me itchy.

Lately LR on my PPing rig is getting hellaciously slow. It seems to be better if I restart and optimize after doing a bunch of keywording, but it takes forever to process to jpegs if don't.

I have decided that within a year I will be getting a new desktop, I would love a mini-mac, but it doesn't have the expansion, I wish mac would bring about a mid range desktop to compete with Dell or other manufacturers.

I know, I have been looking at them. The problem is, Vista... I mean I can still get XP etc. But, I have a feeling that MS is sticking with it no matter what.

If I could find a Mac that was competitive in features and price, I would buy it so I could play with OsX and still have xp etc.

If that doesn't work, and one wants 4Gigs and the XP experience - there is always Server2003 - handles the RAM and works just as well as XP for a desktop OS.

30% is nuts. I usually gently prod my dealer by telling him how much it costs to fly it in (inclusive of tax and shipping - I find that being reasonable is a much better way to maintain a relationship). So if he can come in at close (5-10%) of that price, it's cash and carry.

Amazingly, I have spoken to local resellers here who literally asked me "What do you mean by cash and carry".

Just goes to show....

Cash and carry: it's a simple concept. I give you cash on the spot, you give me product, I carry it home!! DOHH!!!!!!! That's how business has been done for millennia!

And they say us geeks don't understand business.. I understand it a lot better than some of those in it

I'd love to get my local store within 30%....right now they have a 1Dmk3 on sale for a non-negotiable $7999, a 28-135 IS for $995 and a Macro Twin Ringlight for $1500......Those were the actual prices as of this morning...I will stick to B&H....sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh....the local bas***ds don't even wear masks while robbing you.

Yea, I guess that is kinda the point of the camera oh well, it was fun. I am kinda excited to see what happens.

Btw, if you want some film, it is cheaper is andrew, you and I buy some at Bh, since the shipping is almost flat rate for quite a bit of film. So the film is much cheaper than local, if you are interested.

Gawh - you still have CDS's keyboard :-D

She hasn't asked about the film SLR in AGES!
No, I am on the computer in the office, kyle spilled a burrito one it a while back and some the keys have yet to work the same since.

Ha, ok, I just feel bad for using it all this time, but less so if she hasn't had a want to use it.

Anyways, the last group of school kids is here so I have to head out to get the tractors ready.

Cheers.

Think about it - for a normal, non-photographer, who has a digital camera - why would they WANT to shoot film? (normal is relative)

And should they want to do something advance - they ask their son that has more invested in camera gear then his car

One suggestion for portfolio - Photoshop has a function that makes some static HTML gallery pages... use that to make the pages, burn it to a CD - they open the CD, open the index.html file and browse from there...

was one of my options But doing it via Apeture (i have custom layouts pre-done) then just linking it all in with a home page that had a link to a digital copy of my CV

my other two were

2. Full custom flash slide show

3. just jpgs on a disc

Doing up a portfolio shouldn't be that complicated...just place the final edits on the disk...I wouldn't do a slideshow...the person reviewing the portfolio will want to be able to look at the images at their leisure...some might require closer scrutiny and some might get blown off...

And then they wonder why people don't support local businesses...that pricing is flat out insane. I don't have a problem paying a bit more to support the locals...but I don't expect them to retire on one sale!

I agree with you on that.. for those prices it had better be the 1DSMk3, 24-105 and a FEW ringlights ;)

That's the other reason why my local dealer stays in business: he keeps it real and doesn't drive away business while doing so.

Sweet, I have my 400 tri-x loaded into my holga! lets see if I can waste some film with this bugger!

Great pics :)

In that wedding photog frame.. that's at least 6000-12000 watt-seconds being unleashed in one blast!!

Actually, since we're all Canon users - all it takes is one ST-E2 to sync all of those flashes for a mind-numbing retina-searing blast of power ;) set all to slave, group A, channel 1, and everything that 'sees' the initiator pulse from the ST-E2 will go off :D
