Hi Michael,

Your pictures are very nice. I really like the composition and colours in your shots.

In your other post asking the same question in the thread on external flashes, you mentioned that you didn't understand the issues people were having with flash. Just thought I'd point out that the issues people are speaking to are specifically related to external flashes. The internal flash doesn't seem to be a point of contention. I have found that the internal flash is just fine as a fill flash in situations when you are close enough to the subject (as the internal flash isn't that powerful), you don't have a big lens on the camera or a large lens hood (as this blocks the light from the internal flash and causes shadows in your images), and you aren't using the internal flash indoors as the primary light source for a portrait (as you will have to be careful about red-eye and the flash can't be bounced).

BTW, very nice design on your website. Bravo!

Hi Michael

I am not an expert, but your picture are very nice to my eyes, bravo. I have myself a D30 (i got it one weeks ago) but i am a beginner and the flash is something still difficult for me to control! So i would be very interested to know what were your settings when taking those pics (especially the two first one). You where in Av mode i guess, but what aperture you used to get this blurry (but not too much) background? what was the flash exposure compensation? where you far from the subject? ( i know the D30 flash is not that powerfull).
Ok i stop there ;) because i could ask many more questions.

Thanks

Dan

Hi!

Thank you very much for the compliments! I'm from Denmark so sorry for my bad english - anyway, my settings in the D30 was actually on "M" manual, RAW compression and the blurry effect on the second picture is made in Photoshop but the background blur in the other pictures is from the original shoot. When i exposed the first 2 pictures I took a readout of the lighting in the background first and then simply corrected the aperture about two "steps" until I've got just the right balance between foreground and background. I was about 1 meter from the girl.

All of the other pictures are also taken i RAW mode and on "M" manual because that is the only way I can controle the camera just right. The "slow-motion" pictures of the water is simply shot with a VERY short shutter (1/2000 sek) and the 550 Speedlight flash.

Write again for more info!

Hope you can use this...
