I have the canon 300D and just bought a 50mm 1.8 MK11 lens, I have noticed a few times I get the err99 message and was wondering is there known problems with this lens on different settings or do I have a rogue lens.
I,m not sure what settings I am on when the error message occurs and it seems very intermitent.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've not heard of any problems with this combination. If possible, try another lens on the body to see if the problem persists. If not, there's a better than even chance the problem lies with the lens. If it reoccurs with other lenses, then the probable culprit is something in the body. Check for dirty contacts, etc., etc..
Good luck.

I've got the 300D and the 50mm 1.8 MII. I love the lens and use it a lot. I have not had any errors or anything at all.

I've just had to return a faulty MK II, it threw up err 99 every 5 or 6 shots (all of which were over exposed). The aperuture blades were sticking.
I believe the 300D will only let you take 'a few' incorrect shots, and then decides if the lens is not functioning correctly to error out, so as to prevent a photographic disaster?

Thanks John
Thats exactly what is happening to mine the aperture is sticking, so did they change your lens or is it a common fault???

I use this lens on my 300d most of the time. Never had any problems with it...

Bought mine secondhand from LCE in Southampton. They refunded all costs including return special delivery. Found another secondhand one on Amazon for £50...works fine.
Don't know if this is a common fault with the 50mm 1.8
Has anyone else had this problem with this paticular lens?

My daughter-in-law sent me her Canon EF70-300 that no longer stops down... It's OK if it's used in manual mode and opened all the way... Once it is stopped one little bit the camera displays error 99...
It's not a costly lens and it is out of warranty... It would cost more to fix it than to replace it... Just kidding with the "better" lens crack... The 50/f1.8 II is L glass compared to this dead zoom lens...
Glad you have warranties and exchanges to fall back on... I'd buy another 50/f1.8 II promptly if mine failed after warranty...
