Well, I'm still a photonoob as it is, but I'm trying some new stuff and would like to hear some criticism. First up, a comfy dog. I tried some new PP stuff with white balance and shadows, as well as adding vignette to give it an older photo feel:

The other new thing I'm trying is storm photography. With this shot I left it as wide as the lens would go, threw it on Bulb and left the shutter open until it seems like the sky had flashed enough. Most of the lightning was behind the clouds, but this was by far my favorite shot:

Love the lightening. The dog pic looks good, just seems it needs a bit of high contrast B&W to get it going.

Thanks! I ditched all the other storm pics... they just weren't very interesting. We'll see what comes along this week...

shannyD, what do you mean regarding the dog pic? The goal was to make it look old, like it was taken in the 30s or so.

woo... it's been a while. I haven't played with these pics much, but I plan to post more soon. Thanks to those who gave input. :)

as far as the dog goes, maybe you could make it a little sharper..
Image > Mode > Lab Color, click on the 'Channel' panel at the bottom right, click on 'Lightness' go to filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask, adjust it to a comfortable amount usually maybe 30% amount, and 4 pixels for radius. Image > Mode > RGB Color and you're set on the sharpening.
You could also add a little more contrast with it by adjusting curves.
