View Full Version : 300D in Black? Any guess based on past Introduction history?

Hi,
This is my first post on the SLR forum after a year+ on the "G" forum.
Having just won a Photo contest with a few shots shots from my G2, I now have the cash to move up. For me the 300D is my preferred way to go, but have recently seen the Japanese "Black" body pictures and read some general discussion. When I bought my G2 about a year and a half ago it was less than a month and the G2 came out in a black body. I really don't want to jump the gun again and am willing to wait a month or two if need be.
So far that is all my Canon experience, so I don't have a feel for whether it will or will not hit the North America market.
So for you long time canon user/watchers what do you think? What is the probability of it being introduced and best guess on when?
A 10D user friend of mine thinks it will be a while and expects a 10D update/refresh first.
Hope to hear some encouraging opinions!
thanks

Don't hold Your breath, if You want the 300D buy it now or order it from Japan if You are so hung up on getting a black one.
But I can tell You a secret - but don't tell anyone else - You can take just as good photos with the silver body as You can with the black body!

The Black Rebel Body is/was not meant for the US Market. If you really want a black body, you'll probably have to purchase one from a source outside the US.

can you show me your winning shots taken on the G2 please? and if you don't mind me asking, which contest and which category?
thanks

To TommyKjenkins:
Having a bad day are we? It was a light question and I am a little taken back by your sarcastic response.
To Sgu:
It was just a local county contest. The coffee table book is to promote our area for business and tourism. Not sure I should post the pictures, since I do not own them any longer. There were no photographic miracles, just a couple of nice landscapes.
To Haifidelity:
Why do you say it is/was not meant for the US Market? What have you heard or read that leads you to that statement?
thanks

Not at all and it was not meant as an offense I just don't understand the hype about the color. Black, silver, yellow the color does not matter. And besides if You want to wait for something better You can wait for ever because there will always be something better within a few months.
And yes Canon have officially announced that the black body is only for the asian marked. Why, I don't know only Canon knows.

My Reasons:
1.) Canon Japan announced the Digital Kiss in black body will be (and is currently available) to the Japanese Market.
2.) It's been three months since the press release and still no word from Canon USA if they are going to import them here.
3.) The Kit EF-S Lens 18-55 USM (as opposed to the DC driven kit lens sold here) is still being sold in Japan and not in Europe or the US. The reason I'm bringing this up is that because of this, they still appear to be differentiating markets.
You can get a new 10D for approx. $1250.00 from a reputable dealer these days. If you can stretch a little, you can get the black body and extended feature set (without hacking the firmware) now and not have to guess if Canon USA is releasing a Black Digital Rebel.

Well, that's a pretty good point you make. I had pretty much ruled out the 10D as being out of my budget by the time I add in the lens. They are not "L" lens but the kit lens along with the Ef -55-90 makes a pretty nice package at just over 1 grand. Back to the calculator and 17th streets Web site.......thanks

FYI---Used 10D's are going for around 800-1000 bucks. After buying nothing but used lenses over the past year, i have no problem buying used photographic equipment, as long as it's accurately represented.
Try the Buy/Sell forums @ fredmiranda.com..I saw a used DRebel for 650 the other day.
