I'm bored and I was just sitting here thinking about stuff I wish I had a shot of. So I thought I'd go to the general chat section and chat generally about it.

What shot (that you actually had the opportunity to get) do you regret missing? either because you didn't have a camera or whatever, but wish you'd caught it on film. or, er... chip.

Me first: I climbed to the top of Ayer's Rock/Uluru in Australia and didn't think it was worth getting a shot from there as "it just looked like any other landscape." I know it seems silly, but I'll probably never get the chance again. And that would have been film - 1999.

My wife and I drove up to the top of Wamea Canyon on the island of Kauaii. When we got to the top it was cloudy and misting rain, so I thought, I'll just leave my camera in the car. We went out on the observation deck and as the weather broke a beautiful rainbow formed over the canyon.......I immediately started running for the car, but by the time I got back, it was gone. In the meantime, my wife pulled her trusty S2 IS from her camera pocket and got some great pictures......I just think it would have been better if I could have taken them with my camera and my 24-105 f/4L so I could take credit. :)

Last spring I was driving down the 401 from Ottawa through Niagara into Pennsylvania. I had the camera with the 70-200 2.8 sitting in the passenger seat.
I'm in the passing lane blowing away a minivan when I look right into the bush on the other side of the minivan and see a silver/grey wolf walking down the snow through the pines.
Close enough to see the eyes laughing at me.
By the time I got to the shoulder and backed up: Gone. :-(

Let me see....where do I begin? Well, I guess it just boils down to any shot that I do not have on my hard drive now:lol:.

No seriously, I've seen many warbirds flying around here lately and each time I do, I never have my camera with me.

I live in the Lake District in the UK, a very good flying area for the Air Force, they are allowed down to 500ft, so low flying aplenty - now I have the 400d and 40d I am going to reserve the 400d for my 'car' camera and always have the 70-300 at the ready, I would love to have the 100-400 on all the time but I never let that out of my sight !

As I drive a company car and my new one is due I opted for the Estate version so I will always have room for a camera bag and on the long 'Lakes' drives I will have the camera on the front seat !

I know of 4 Bird of Prey locations near the roads I travel and I see them every time I drive those roads, those shots WILL be mine !

I have seen, with my eyes shots that people would die for, birds of prey and fighter planes in the same shot, please, one day let me get that shot !

I know this might just be a snapshot picture but while I was sailing down the intercoastal here in St. Peterburg, Florida this year with my wife's family in visiting we saw this 12 foot johnboat going by with a large male lion standing on the front of the boat enjoying the sceens. I was driving the boat and was unable to run downstairs and grab the camera but really enjoyed the site.

I wish I would have taken my camera out more in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and London on my recent trip. It was raining but I could have used an umbrella. I was there for Landscapes and wasn't in the mood to shoot urban.. now I regret it though. lol

President Lincoln's assassination.

I learned about it like 85 years too late.

I lived through the 89 Loma Prieta earthquake, and considering all the things that fell down, shook apart, and were otherwise rent asunder, I never thought to take a single picture. Our house had $75K in damage (significant in 1989), and I don't have a single picture to remember it by.

When my dog Cody was about 2 1/2 (and huge!) we got a puppy, Cara. She was a tiny little furball and she wanted to play with him SO bad and would bounce around him yapping in that cute puppy voice...one day he had enough (the one day I wasn't taking pics) and slowly put his rump in the air as he stretched his neck out toward her and let out a bellowing roar of a bark. She rolled over backwards and tumbled across the hardwood floor. They were best friends from that day to the day Cody died.

Our house had $75K in damage (significant in 1989), and I don't have a single picture to remember it by.Wow. Until now, I'd never even thought about not having one picture of that time. I remember driving across the San Mateo-Hayward, everyday and glancing at the gap in the upper deck of the Bay Bridge, drivers reluctant to stop underneath overpasses for fear of aftershocks, the additional lanes on 101 added on the shoulders.

Back in April, I was running along the Great Miami River in Dayton, Ohio when I approached a bridge . From the running path, the bridge crossed the river at a pleasing diagonal angle. The water was perfectly still, almost mirror-like, the sky was a pure, deep blue without a cloud to be seen, and the reflection was perfect. By the time I finished my run, got back to my hotel, grabbed my camera and drove back to the spot, the breeze had picked up and the scene was gone.

Every sunset that I've never had a camera with me.
No two are ever the same.
