:?: After a folder has been deregistered are the pictures truly lost or have they been moved to an unnamed forlder. If they have been deleted is there any way of retreiving those pictures that were deleted when the folder was deregistered or am I royally screwed being that the pictures were of my wife's 25th H.S. reunion? Is there anyway out of the doghouse or is it IAMS for the next couple of weeks.

Maybe you didn't clear your camera memory ? [hope..hope...hope...]

I will tell you that I have a back up hard drive and I copy ZB into it VERY often, just to avoid these tragedies.... And, seriously... I know they are that.

If you deregister a folder, all you are doing is removing it from the list of folders in ZoomBrowser. The folder is still on your hard drive with all the pictures. All you need to do is click on 'File', then click 'Register Image Folder.' Next, just browse to the folder you want to view and click OK. If you're not sure of the location of the folder, you can always do a search (or find) from your START menu for: IMG*.JPG (search in C: drive).

Depends on the version.... I "HOPE" you have one of the newer versions that browse the whole computer, not creating a data base.. In MY version, when you delete a folder and pictures...they are GONE....GONE......

Apparently he is using a version 3.x since he's asking about deregisterring folders. In the new versions, if you delete pics from ZB, they go to the recycle bin.

I assume you are using a compact flash card and that you have deleted all. If you have not used it since the deletion, you can retrieve your images by using one of the many Image Retrieval progs.

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Digital+Image+Recovery

Try this Google link. There are many progs on here. I use Digital Image Recovery but when I typed it in, 'Bad Copy' came up so perhaps it is now renamed.

We went to Thailand and the last day was spent photographing elephants. I took 140+ images. I had filled my card and wanted to take one more pic of a little boy so decided to delete one pic - I deleted the lot.

I was so miserable. However, when I got home I put my card into the reader (btw, you have to have a reader - it doesn't work through the camera) and all the pics returned on to my hard drive.

I was delighted. I wish you luck. I think these are free ware.

Ours is a Three Step process.... Download from the camera / Copy IL1 to the D: drive / UN-HOOK THE CAMERA FROM THE COMPUTER, and clean off it's memory.

The Un-Hook process is important, 'cuz there is a set of clicks that will allow you to clean off the camera memory, using the computer...

Sad to lose good pictures....glad there is some way to retrieve 'em...

The original folder was on R:\ a mapped drive that no longer existed because the server went down. Most of the pictures are saved and the mapped drive continued as if it were local. Then I ran spybot, adaware and an antivirus to remove an infected drive. When I did that R:\ was visible and the pictures were viewable but I could not print them or move them so when I deregistered the R:\ folder the newest downloaded pictures were gone. My version of Zoombrowser is v3.2.0.4. I created a new folder to local drive c:\ and tried to copy the pics on folder r:\ and i would no copy over. I ran a recovery software and it can't find them as well as a search.

This sounds very much like something that happened to me last year. I lost ALL my jpgs.

I could see them on certain progs ie Slide Show to Go and Adobe Photoshop Album but when I double clicked there was nothing there.

All my folders were there and duly named, but empty.

My hard drive is C. I ran the Recovery Software and was able to retrieve some of them. I lost about 10 gig.

The problem was, all jpgs were being recovered even little bits of web sites. Anyway I managed to retrieve a lot of my latest ones.

I still have a lot missing which I would like to retrieve but I don't have the equipment. As the files were being retrieved they were filling up my hard drive - more were being retrieved than I needed, and I didn't have much space.

I really want a Digital Recovery Program that is selective ie to recover jpgs between certain file sizes and that would eliminate the internet rubbish.

Once recovered, it is easy just to sort and delete all but the files you need.

Did you run the Recovery Program on your hard drive?

I downloaded one of the recovery softwares from the google search that you were kind enough to post for me and I am going to give it a try and I will get back to you on that and let you know how it works. The software is called mediarecover.

:D :D :D Thanks to everyone for their input on the zoombrowser forum.
I especially want to thank Autumn for the google link that had MediaRecover and the demo showed the recovery of the pictures but would only let me recover just one. I purchased the software and it worked great. I read the compact flash and I was able to recover the pictures that were on the folder before I deregistered it. I would recommend that you go to http://www.mediarecover.com and try the demo out. Again thanks for your help. I will continue to monitor the boards for insight and input. You guys are great. Thanks
