Does anyone know why PS will sometimes list the Lens ID in the metadata, and other times the lens ID will just be blank....with the same lens on the same camera? Doesn't make sense to me, but somehow I'm guessing that Ive disabled the feature allowing the camera to record the lens info in the data.

It is what the lens reports to the camera that is recorded. Maybe some third party lenses don't do this properly? It isn't anything that can be changed in the camera.

Well, what confuses me is that my 70-200 would always be identified. Then, the first few shots with my new Tamron 28-75 were also identified....but the more recent shots with the Tamron are blank, as is the 70-200 and the 50. So, thats why it seems that some setting has been changed somewhere...The same exact lens/camera combo has been behaving differently on different occassions.

Could it be a firmware update that has made the change for you?

Early versions of the RAW Plug-in in Photoshop CS would drop some of the EXIF data. Make sure you have the latest version which is available at Adobe's site for free.

Well, I am certain my 10D has the latest firmware and ALMOST certain that my PSCS has the latest RAW plug in, but I'll double check.

thanks,

are the files different? I notice that the lens info is not included with jpegs - only raw files
