Went hiking in the Angeles National Forest and started taking shots of the sun dappled woods, only to discover that the lit spots come out as overblown white blobs.
Here are a number of examples:

Anybody know how to rectify this?
Thanks.

Hi,
Photos look ok. The sun was an issue and you have composed the pictures to exclude as much of the sun as possible.
There is a fair amount of dynamic range and you can see detail in the shadows. You will have to tone the highlights down using software. I am using ULEAD Photoimpact 4 and would drop the highlights down by 5 to 10 points for most of your shots.
On my S40, there is a histogram function that shows the balance between light and shadows. If a picture has too much contrast, I will retake the subject from a different angle.
Sorry, best that I can do. From my experience, problems can be tackled on a systematic basis, which means examining all aspects of the decision-making process.
