Trouble with new BG-E3 grip.

I just got my BG-E3 battery grip tday but there is something wrong. After I put it on I noticed that all the LEDs were on in the view finder. I tried my flash and it wouldn't flash at full power. I tried it with 2 batteries and 1 battery with the same result. Is it defective? Shouldn't I just be able to put the batteries in, install it and turn on the camera with no problem?

Very strange, definitely doesn't sound right. It is a plug & play device, so to speak.

I figured so, I guess I got a lemon. I will have to send it back. I really like how it makes my Rebel XTi feel in my hand.
