This lens was just discussed. I'd skip that lens as I think most people here probably would.

This would be a good opportunity for you to practice using the search engine at the top of this page. You'll find several threads where this particular lens has been discussed.

Here's one:

Good luck.

That's right. You don't have to apologize.

The search engine is a valuable tool and can save you a lot of time, especially for this kind of question. New members can be forgiven for not knowing about it. You'll probably have to experiment with it a little to find out what types of searches produce the best results, but once you get used to it, it will often take you directly to the information you need.

By the way, welcome to the forum. You'll learn a lot here.

I read a lot of forums and just forgot to use the search engine this time, trust me I have noted this one and slapped myself round the head for being a "newbie" for 2 minutes. lol

EDIT > And the worst thing... now bear in mind, I am now blushing out of pure embarrassment due to the fact that the thread is at the bottom of the first page LOL!!!

LOL...... it'll be Ok... Basically, skip the 75-300. What is your budget?

Looking at about £200-400 as its just a starter lens to go with the 18-55 that came with the 300d.

So yeah, any advice on what I should be looking at would be great. I really do like the idea of a wide angle lens to get the really nice effects im after.

You'll have to translate your budget into USD's for me... but, looking at the images on your link, I would recommend the Canon 50mm f1.8 II. I think several others here would also. This lens is about $70 US, and produces superb images. 50mm would be a good portrait length for some of the shots on that link as well..... I have only had my 50mm for about 2 weeks not, but I'm kicking myself for not buying one ages ago.

A little more expensive is the canon 85mm. If you want the telephoto length though, I would recommend the canon 70-200mm f/4L which is about $550 US.

Another lens that I just got and am very happy with is the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 XR Di. I got this for about $329 US.... great lens for the $$$!!
