As title, do you leave your grip on at all time? or only when you "need" it?

When I had my 20D I left the grip on 99% of the time and took it off only when I needed to be unconscious when I go somewhere.

Grip comes off to clean and that is it on my XT I think it's great. Realy balances the camera and gives it a better feel.

Do you guys still use the neckstrap when the grip is on, or you have purchased a handstrap?

Most of time grip was on body. I buy grip because 20D has nasty lower edge on holder, and after few hours without grip my right hand hurts me very much. Grip set perfect weight balance when flash and/or telephoto lens is mounted, it's like you have new camera with grip on. With grip I use handstrap.
Then I go somewhere and have need for light weight and small camera, grip goes off, 28/2.8 on and neckstrap attached on body.

Only when using long lenses all day, like motor racing. The neck strap is on all the time.

My 20D has a permanently-mounted grip, handstrap, and neckstrap.

I am with Skip on this. My 5D has a grip, handstrap and neckstrap from day one, all permanent.
The neckstrap is pretty much used only for "insurance" any more, as the handstrap takes all the weight of the camera.

Used to be always one. The it broke (vertical buttons wouldn't work). Now I never use it and don't miss it. I have the hand strap on all the time now and just like it more. Also kills out some tightness in the bag.

Sometimes I take the grip off and mount the 50mm 1.8. Kinda cool with the XTI, I'm a sucker for lots of technology and performance in a small lightweight package. Or when I take the XTI motorcycle riding, I mount the kit lens and use the Canon leather case for the whole package.

Another vote for a permanently-mounted grip and neckstrap, which doubles as a handstrap by wrapping the right strap around my wrist. A minor peace of mind in the event someone attempts to "appropriate" the camera out my hand.
I've got to stop going to bad sections of town...

It's part of of my 5d...just like a mkIII which has it built in. The vertical release and the larger feel is huge benefit IMHO.

I had my grip on my 400D all the time. Camera was just way to small without the grip. Just ordered a brip for my 40D, I'm sure my usage will be the same.

I only use my grips sometimes. Almost never use it on my XTi. I guess I really only use it when I know I'll be doing a lot of shooting in portrait orientation or when I know I'll be using my 70-200.
Oh and I love my OpTech strap for being able to clip it on and off. :)

I keep the grip permanently on my 350D, with a hand strap. I haven't used the neck strap since I got the camera, I hate having it "flapping about". But if I'm out and about, I do use a Lowepro Toploader bag for the camera with grip and 24-105, and that has the Optech strap on, which is sooo comfortable!

If you want a similar strap, look at the very comfy POTN strap:
http://www.procameragear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=30&products_id=141&osCsid=45a7tof9823vih43cgc7npq900
It unclips, giving you a shorter strap you can wrap around your wrist, and it is very, very comfy!

I find it a requirement for me to have the grip, hand strap and a comfortable neck strap on the camera 99% of the time. The 1% would be when I need to clean it.

Anyone have a pic of a 400D with a grip mounted?? Would be even better if the lens mounted it either of: 50mm 1.8, 100mm Macro, 17-85mm IS or the 70-300mm IS so i can see the size diference (Since i own those lenses it will help me work out the size diference) if thats not possible a shot with no lens mounted would be great.
I recently got a 40D which would be way to big and heavy with a grip but am looking at getting one for my 400D.
Thanks!

Here you go, at least for the 50mm 1.8.

I have an XT and always leave the grip on. Like others have said it gives it a more full/balanced feeling. I don't have the largest hands but my fingures still hang over the bottom of the body when the grip isn't on. Plus you get the extra battery power.

Thanks. I might get one for my 400D simply since it feels soo small now i have a 40D lol Would a Griped 400D (No lens) fit in the top compartment of a Slingshot 200AW??

grip is on all the time, are you really going to have time to get that battery door off and the grip screwed in when the situation calls for it out of no where?

I just checked the size of the grip on the 350/XT body and it comes out to 5.5 inches from top/hot shoe to bottom of grip. It fit fine in my Velocity 9. Not sure how my bags size compares to yours though.

Thanks ill have a look on my 400D in the bag later. How tall is the grip itself from bottom of the 400D to the very bottom of the grip?? (IE: How much taller does it make the 400D?)

I got a grip for my 400D yesterday and it hasn't come off yet:D I don't think it will ever come off either, it feels better without my little finger slipping under the camera body. And the balance feels better with my 70-300 mounted.

I never take it off, unless im using a tripod and taking some serious landscape shots. It seems to flex less with the grip off.
Most of the stuff I do is not using a tripod so its on most of the time.
