Bought it two days ago, what you guys think about this camera? I dont see many people using it, there are two things that i didnt liked: highlights overexpose too easy, and there is a lot of cromatic aberration on the extremes of the lens (1cm macro and 12x)

Wow...use an external flash at all? I think that's thre real advantage over the S3. But still nice shots.

Well done Techuser, this is the nicest set of pictures I have yet to see from the S5. I think the shots you took are great, nice and sharp. I especially like the fourth one, the frog. Good depth of field. The chromatic aberration is to be expected on this type of camera but remember you are able to take long zoom shots without having to get a second mortgage and then carry a suitcase full of equipment. No, I'd be very happy if I were you. I was looking at the S5 myself and after seeing your shots it will certainly be my next camera.

Thanks
Used the onboard flash with paper, I would like an external flash but its kinda expensive for now, my priority is a raynox dcr-250. Already ordered the adapter tube with polarizer, will receive it in two weeks =)

I agree with Roddie! I've been contemplating another bridge camera (to replace my Fuji S9100). If I can coax photos out of the S5 like these, I'll be more than happy. Thanks to your shots, I'm off to find one this afternoon :D

Hi all,
I am new here - well joined 2 years ago I see, but I forgot! :o

I came back over to find some equipment to buy since all of mine was stolen (5D / 4 lenses).

But in the meantime, and during "withdrawal" I ordered the S5 IS from Newegg and it will be here tomorrow.

I loved looking at these shots and cannot wait to be able to take a smaller (more feasible camera) out on a walk with my dog! I really liked the flower with the - dog hair? That's what everything around here looks like :D

The moon looked great too!! Gotta try that tomorrow :)

Very nice shots indeed - I especially like the frog - he/she/it seems to have a very interesting but grumpy personality :)

Nice shots! I checked out this camera at Circuit City the other day - they finally had the store sample working. It felt like a solid camera and after tinkering with it for about 15 minutes, it seemed pretty easy to operate. I've tried a few that seemed rather clutsy to figure out without a manual. It's obvious that the camera itself is capable of nice images but I want to offer kudos to the photographer. A good photographer can make decent images out of just about any camera when he knows what he's doing - great job!

I have an S5 IS too, it's a great camera. I also love its good video abilities, which are useful for me.

Techuser, those shots are FANTASTIC!!! Congrats!

Just bought mine five days ago. Unreal device. I'm especially in love with the stereo recording, the zoom, super macro, and (of course) non proprietary battery capabilities. Kudos to Canon!

congrats! its a great little camera, I have one and enjoy it when I dont want to haul all my other gear (or also take to concerts! the camera police dont realize how close you can get with the 12x zoom!)

Nice shots Techuser. The reson you don't see many S5 users here is because they are all over at S5is_Users (http://www.s3users.com/forum/index.php).

What do you mean by you used paper? I've struggled to get good low-light results with my S5 and I'd really, really appreciate any advice you could give me. Thanks! :)

Putting paper over the flash will act as a diffuser to soften the light. Try tissue, coffee filters...

Yeah, it act as a difuser, I´ve made something a bit more elaborate now but its still not perfect

Now some more random situation shots, this camera did well capturing in low-light (the dancing girl)
I´ve been using it for more than a month now, and really stopped with my A510

And for serious shot i´m using the custom mode with zero processing, its the closest to raw while we dont have the hack...

Wow Tech! Color me impressed! Thanks for the info and shots. I'm going to try making a similar rig tonight.

Have you done anything to cover the back of the tube?
