They are both cute shots, but the second one is far and away the more appealing of the two. That is because the first shot, though competently shot, has SUCH a mundane subject. An adorable little rodent nibbling on some grain. For about the billionth time.
With the second shot, you still present the cute little rodent, but this time the pose is more inviting. With the arm down and chest open to the camera, the viewer is more involved than with the other one arms up guarding his meal.
I think a crop, some leveling, and some more color might help. I also found that this shot lends itself well to a square crop - something that is not easy to do.
All that said, it IS a cute little rodent!

Ohhhhh, Kay.
Well, can't argue with that. Still is a decent square crop.

ha ha..nice...didnt see that coming...that's actually better....good with square now. i just think the metal breaks up the "monotony" of the image a little and balances the pic (since that metal hardware offsets the squirrels weight)

Whoa that's really weird! I just realized what ELSE happened. I looked at the previous crop and then this last one, and wondered how a square was made, then i realized the squirrel "MAGICALLY" moved closer to the nuts and bolts:shock:
Nice photoshopping.

James I think all of your shots look good, you can make a few adjustments like tighter cropping and maybe a bit of contrast and USM. I did a few adjustments on the levels and USM....+ Border.
