Good evening,

I have just brought a new camera, but was wondering what a certan port/hole was for.

It is in the same compartment as the memory card & battery.

Cheers

Hi Lucy, welcome to the forums.

I do not have an IXUS 70, but I collect Canon manuals :).

From the manual drawings I can not see any hole inside the battery compartment other than the slots for the battery and the memory card.

Are you referring to the threaded hole that I colored in red that is at the left of the cover?
It is the tripod socket, just in case you need to use one with the camera.

If there is another hole there, I hope an IXUS70 / SD1000 owner can answer the question.

Wee hole?
Not info about it in the manual; it is probably just a deep hole for a tiny screw; my Pro1 has some holes like that. Do not worry about it.

Yeah that's just a visible part of the construction of the camera, it's not a port

I've got an Ixus 70 ..... and just had a look.

It is definitely not a port - just looks like at most something to tell the camera the cover for the battery / SD card is shut ..... IMO of course.
