got the 50mm f1.8, and today purchased the tamron 28-75 f2.8. how many of you w/ almost the same configuration/lenses have found your kit lens collecting dust or what have you???

i'm just wondering if its the best thing to do for my first EF(-S) lens ever. should i find her a new home, or keep her??? either way, how much are these going for anyways? its a one month old in mint condition w/ a canon uv filter.

TIA

Because it will only work with the 300D (without extreme...i'm talking extreme modifications) i dont think anyone should ever sell it. I highly doubt that you are going to keep the 300D for the rest of your photography life. And at best you'll get $100 for this lens on ebay...AT BEST. That said, i think your better off keeping it so when/if you sell your 300D you have a nice lens to sell with it. Even if you dont use it.

Since the difference in new price between the whole kit with lens and the camera body without lens was about $100, then the value of a slightly used EFS lens should be only $50-100. Therefore, just keep it as a backup lens.

Definitely keep it as a back up lense, not worth selling it. It may not be the best lense in the world, but it has served it purpose quite nicely for me.

If your other lens' shortest focal length is 28mm (which gives the field of view of about 45mm on an 1.6x crop factor camera like the 300D), don't you think you'll miss the wide angle side if you sell your EF-S lens?

well besides the other focal length (since i might get something else to cover that)... i'll prolly just keep it in the possibility that decades from now, i might "up"grade to a new canon dslr. i see what you are saying... pretty much, a digital rebel kit will sell more than a digital rebel (body only) in the future. its like selling an optimus prime dicast metal vs the plastic ones ^^

thanks for all your great insights.

it's the widest lens you have why get rid of it?
not until you get the 17-40 or 16-35 can you get rid of it.
I don't really care that it's the ONLY lens that is EF-S
that doesn't mean anything till they produce more lenses as EF-S
but it's the widest thing you have, by 10mm
kee it

I Agreed with c0ntr0lz.
You might need the wide angle lens one day.

I agree also, keep the 18-55 since you already have it. I was thinking of getting the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 as well, how do you like it? Can you post some shots with it?

I agree with everyone - keep it. you can use it for the wide end now, and when you sell the DRebel you get to offer a more tempting product than a camera with no eye :D , but you still get to keep all your nice lenses.

When I get my 50mm 1.8 MKI I will keep the kit lens too.

i never took one pic with the kit lens, but when i sold my Dreb, it sealed the deal. definitely worth keeping.
