I know mine are not as good as most that have posted so far, but I will add my perspective. I only attended the qualifying on Friday, sorry no Saturday finals pictures. All shot with my XTi, and Tamron 18-250. I saw a bunch of white lenses out there, so I know there has to be some really nice work to still be posted.
For those of you that have never gone to one of there, make it a priority to get to the race. It was so much fun; I can't wait for next year to roll around.

Start off with the nerve center, the control tower:

I am in the Air Force my self, but San Diego is their home terf:

Lets go racing:

Most of these are dark, I know. I wish I could have had the sun at my back:

This is probably one of my favorites from the day:

And we will end the day with a high speed pass from the Navy F-18:

If you have any suggestions, I am always open to them. Thanks for looking.

I have about 30 pictures at this link:

I really like that 4th shot and the last one of the F-18. It looks like it was really tough shooting from the Embarcadero. I got out to Coronado for Friday and Saturday and it was great for photos, but I think it would've been a better experience on the Embarcadero with all the videos and announcers and all. Hopefully they'll come back next year.

I was really nice on the South Embarcadero, maybe a little too much volume with the annoucers, but otherwise very nice. And having the chicanes so close to the land made for some very nice viewing angles.

Thanks for looking, I thought I was going to make it to the second page with no commets.

It was nice having the announcers so we knew who was flying when, especially during the quarter, semi and final rounds. I was in the media area and except for a group of very rude video people at the winner's news conference who barged in and set up in front of a bunch of still photographers who were already there, the media was treated very well by the Red Bull people.

Yeah, they were a bit loud and I got a bit tired of the US/Great Britain rivalry between the two announcers. The big thing was the light. It was a lousy place to put the press people covering the event. The best light yesterday was during and right after the rain squall that blew through early in the event.

I talked to the woman handling the PR stuff and she said they tried to put the press in Coronado but there were permitting issues. Probably the elitist residents and city government of Coronado. It's OK to have an expensive VIP area but not the media riff-raff.

Was the press area the little jetty to the south of the south embarcadero?

That's horrible, but I know how you feel. I was with my one year old son, and of course we had his stroller and the rest of his stuff. Anyways, I had been camped out at my location all day (to the right of the red bull camera that was on the moveable arm.) And the same thing happened to me.

HA HA. I know what you mean. When we drive down there in our little Hyundai Tucson, we get disapproving looks as well. I keep forgetting to drive my Bentley down to the island to make them happy. ;)

There's a public fishing pier at Embarcadero Marina Park South. It was open for just the media and there weren't that many there. I doubt there were 100 people on the pier the whole day. It was great to have all that room! Plus we had tents in the park with high-speed Internet connections, refreshments, and all the PR materials we could want. Even the porta-potties were upscale. They looked like the lavatory on a 747, just on the ground.

The video people were either German or Austrian (heavy accents) and were wearing Red Bull Air Race Crew shirts. I think they figured they were special... Except for the light, that was the only negative moment of the entire weekend.

The residents of Coronado have been complaining for years about the Navy at North Island. Every time the Navy decides to homeport another carrier there, there is a big outcry about the traffic and the "danger" of the nuclear-powered carriers.

I was just to the right of the Press Pier. All day I wish I was Media. The South Embarcadaro was really crowded and people just kept pushing their way forward.

Here are some of the pics I took.

That's to bad about it being so crowded. But that is why I only went for Friday's quali. I knew that everybody would still be at work, and it paid off. There were not that many people there on Friday.

For some reason it didn't seem too crowded where I was over on Coronado, but every time I see of picture near where I was at (on the small sand beach) I'm shocked at how many people there are. Although we did get there early enough to set up at the waters edge. Funny though, as the tide went out, it made more room which people happily took right in front of us, but by the end, we were right up front again as everyone ran away from the rising tide.

That's where I spent Friday and Saturday. Granted, it was less crowded but the light wasn't any better. I managed to get pretty sunburned... I got quite a few shots of those light poles, too. :D
