canon a80 dark picture

Just 3 months ago, I purchased a new canon a80. It was fine until i gave it to someone special, I do not know what he did to the camera?!!

When I select the Auto mode it was ok before, but now the picture is dark with the flash is enabled, and bright when the flash is off ???

It will not be ok unless I choose the P Mode..

Any help will be appreciated.

Note-I tried resetting the camera to its default settings, but it didn't solve the problem
