I wasn't thinking when I bought my 10D yesterday and didn't buy a spare battery. Does it need to be the Canon battery or can is an aftermarket one ok? (I am still just so excited :D :D )

I'm using a third party battery, no problems so far. Also, I haven't heard of any complaints against after market BP511's.

I've got two (different) third-party BP511s. One's Energizer, I forget what the other is. Since neither came with a terminal cover, does anyone know of a source for these?

Plenty available on fleabay, just picked up one last night for £5.50 ($10.15)
Have used the 3rd party batteries for lots of things, cameras, laptops, mobile phones. Id say go for it!

Sorry - not the batteries, the covers. $10 buys a lot of electrician's tape.

I have 1 aftermarket battery for my DRebel that I picked up at CompUsa, don't remember the name, but it works fine. I have 3 batteries total, two BP-511s, and the 1 aftermarket. I have 2 BP-511s because I also have a G3 which also uses the BP-511, so I lucked out when I got my DRebel that it uses the BP-511. The reason why I have 3 battieries is because I learned through experience that you can never have enough batteries :)

You can also get the 1500MAH (vs the 1100MAH Canon one) from B&H in NYC for about $35. It is made by Power2000. I have 2 of them and no problems yet.

Power 2000 is a good batt. just remember what ever you get, make sure it's 7.4 volts.
