"thats pretty retarded. Just stick with one brand, it will make your life way easier. There is really no need to get a digital rebel and a d70. Thats just a waste of money. Just stick with a d70 or digital rebel."
someone said this on another Forum. anyone agree with this? :?

Well if You have plenty of money and someone to carry all the different lenses for You then it might be a good idea

I agree unless you've already got the lenses i guess.
I wih i had a second body, one for a short lens and one for a long lens...i can assure you they'd both be canon.
But if you have the cash and want to experiment...then who cares.
Afterall, if you think it's retarted, then dont do it yourself.

I certainly wouldn't mind a 10D and a 1D. But a Nikon and a Canon seems crazy. Double lens overkill.

I'm with Scott on this one. Who in their right mind would own two different brands.

Two different bodies from the same manufacturer so that you can share the lenses would seem sensible... I am not sure that two cameras with incompatible lens mounts makes much sense.

Although if I had a D70 then I could sneak my way into the ranks of N***n users and thwart their world-domination plans... :)

If it wasn't almost August, I'd be concerned this was an April Fool's joke. It's a pretty silly notion.
Of course, if money is not a concern, then why not three different SLR systems? ----- or four?

3 would be ideal for me, the same brand of course. one with wide angle zoom, one with medium range telephoto, and one big teleprime :D

I have two - Canon EF and Canon FL (FD compatible).
One's older than dirt, but its fun to mess with occasionally.

Sorry, I didn't read all the responses.
My 2 cents (wink wink) is that you use the old cam for one set of lenses, say, WA. And you leave the other for zooms. The idea being is to minimize changing lenses. I hate changing the lens.

This gets us away from the premise of the original question which was based on using competing brands of (dare I say) comparable cameras. I believe the example used was a Rebel and a D70.
A lot of us are in the position of having used a different SLR system before switching to Canon's EOS. I still have a bunch of Pentax screw mounts and early K mounts, plus I also have a few of my old Canon FD pieces around somewhere.
The notion of owning a current Canon DSLR and a Nikon (or other brand) DSLR is pretty goofy. There's no way to avoid a lot of redundancy, none of which would be usable cross-platform.

I can see having two differing slr bodies in some circumstances.
If a MUST HAVE lens is available only with another mount style, or if you need the features of an alternative brand of body than your customary brand.
All things being equal, one mount style makes the most sense. Since flash, sync cords, remotes, software, lenses.... need not be duplicated...
Certainly would not buy another brand without darned good justification...

Well, I'm not getting rid of my Vivitar 90-180 Series 1 Macro Zoom or Sigma 15 mm. fisheye in FD mount or the New F-1 to mount it on!
Oh, wait, I haven't gotten rid of the F-1n, or the T-90, or the 100-300 FD, or the 28-55 FD, or the . . . either!
But when I get my next DSLR I'm not going to start another collection of lenses for it. BTDTGTTS.

There are people at FM that change system brands as often as I change my shirt...
I think there nuts!
Let alone trying to keep two systems! Ouch :?
Stopbath raises a valid reason to do so though... Say you are heavily invested in Nikon.. but you want to get a 600mm lens.. Now you clearly have the money to put whatever body you want on a lens in that price range... even if it is the only thing you'd ever use thatbody for.
So you'd obviously get the Canon 600mm f/4 IS so you could have AS on your big prime.. then you'd get whatever Canon Body just so you could use that lens.
