I've been trying Craigslist for photography.Seems like a loser. Anybody got much positive to say about it? I understand that its value largely depends on area but here I've put 3 ads up.

The first was TFP which received one response giving a phone number to call somebody whose name was not on the email address. That seemed very fishy so I never responded.

The second was TFP which received no response at all.

The third offered $500 wedding photos which received no response.

My current advert offers free pre-wedding photos - no response yet.

In the real world, my advertising on my clothing gets more responses than I imagined. I've had four enquiries in as many days.

It can work, but must seriously be dealt with only locally. It's still picking up too.

I've applied to a few jobs on there, and while one woman "hired" me, she never called me for a job. Didn't really count on it. Did get offers when I sold my phone on there, but they were bogus ones where they offer more but need shipped now or some BS.

Idk

Yes. I applied for a couple of jobs there. One woman said she'd call me again but never did. Another job turned up as unspecified hours, unspecified wage and payment partially withheld until a specified period of employment had occurred and no benefits. Vague hints were made that it could reach $800 a week but it stank so much like an insurance-type scam that I never bothered further past being given the job.

I just regard craigslist as probably a waste of time but worth try.

I would not do TFP or free anything. People don't think you are serious or good if you don't charge anything. Models worth putting in your book will pay you and show up. "Second rate" ones who want a free session tend to jerk you around more. Same with employers. If you charge a little bit instead of offering to work for experience then they will take you seriously. In the end people want to hire someone to do the job well, not someone who will screw it up and chalk it up to getting experience. If your getting paid it means that you will care about it.

That's the way I see it anyway. Craigslist is full of people who want something for nothing or are just staring out and learning.

I haven't tried it myself but do watch it for my area and know one person that has had some success with it. He puts up a new add about every other day so that he is always near the top. You have to stay at it. Throwing one add out there and then hoping business will come just isn't going to work. There are a couple of different areas that you could put your ads in. This person that I know does have a real good website that he links to. What he did tell me was that the people that he gets off of craiglist tend to be the ones that want to pay next to nothing.

No bites on Craigslist but I put an ad on one of my gun rights forums offering free portraits for the first 5 respondents and got an immediate response :) Working out the details now.
