Here are some photos of my B+W 67mm Graduated Neutral Density filter.
67E GRADUATED ND 0.6-4X (502) http://www.schneideroptics.com/ecommerce/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?CID=660&IID=3763
When you look at it on an angle, you can see what apears to be the unpainted edge of the glass. It seems to be only on the "un-darkened" edge.
I have never seen this on any other filter. Is this normal, or do I have a problem with this filter?

Strange, none of my B+W's look like that

Do you have any B+W GND's like this one?
I have only had this filter for about 2 weeks. I first noticed this yesterday after I had it combined with a polarizing filter. I wonder if the glass has somehow shifted in it's mount?

Hmmm, I retract my statement actually. I just checked out my GND (which is the same model as yours, just a 77mm) and it looks exactly the same. Its right where the clear glass meets the tinted glass--the clear glass part looks like its missing paint, but I'm guessing its just the reflection from the glass being clear.

You should've bought square GND filter anyway..like Lee or Hitech. This way you can adjust the filter to the shot, instead of vice versa

Interesting....
I just sent an emal to B+W (www.schneideroptics.com (http://www.schneideroptics.com)) to ask if this is normal.
I'll report back if I hear anything.

Most filters have edges that are not painted...the Hoyo Pro 1 Digital is a filter that uses this as a competitive point to distinguish themselves against the competition, and they have a black filter edge treatment. I have never seen any objective measurement of what benefit (if any) there is in this edge treatment. Don't worry, be happy!

Here is the answer from B+W:
Dear Mr. Sowsun
You are indeed seeing the reflected edge of your Graduated ND filter.
This is due to the angle of the light and the angle of view for the picture.
Because of the filter casement this edge refection will not enter the picture.
B & W Filters edges are finished in two ways:
1.) A very fine ground finish, like the edge of exposed eye-ware
lenses.
2.) Polished smooth, edges slightly rounded.
I hope this information has been helpful to you, if you have any other
questions please feel free to contact me.
Best Regards
