I have checked out www.tsa.gov as well as many other sites. I only am finding information on liquids, for the most part. Does anyone know if we are allowed to bring animal crackers through security checkpoint, in an UN-opened bag?

My flight is very early, so I probably won't be able to eat very much breakfast at 4:00 am (stomach not awake yet) before leaving for the airport. I would like to bring a bag of crackers to munch on after checking in, but didn't want to buy things at the airport store that is OVERPRICED. Anyone know?

Thank you :) (and yes, I am bringing my camera with me in case you were wondering ;)

I'm from New Orleans. You should see the size of the sandwiches we bring on the planes. Animal crackers are easy to bring.

Yes, but were the sandwiches purchased AFTER security check in with your carry-ons, or brought from home?

Made them at home. Wrapped them in foil. Put them in my carry-on. Passed through x-ray with no problem (not sure if that warmed the sandwich ;) ).

All food must go through the X-ray machine. Do NOT bring food to the security checkpoint unwrapped, as shown in the image on the above right.

Food must be wrapped or in a container. Unpeeled natural foods like fruit are okay, but half-eaten fruits must be wrapped.

"After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area on-board aircraft."

This is a BIG help!

We have three kids. We pack big sandwiches. When everyone else is being handed peanuts, I'm pulling out roast beef po-boys. "Hey! Pack your own!"

LOL, I brought a whole pizza (medium) on board once with no issues...

Oh that's just evil.

Off topic: During college, I showed up to a senior level class with a teacher I'd had a couple times before, carrying a small pizza and a beer. I knew that food in his class was not an issue. ;)

LOL you guys are funny! I bet your sandwiches probably *did* get warmed up a bit :P

And pizza? That sounds even tastier than crackers!, but also a bit more risky ;)

Philly cheese steaks from Jim's. Lotta PO'd people on that flight, sat on the tarmac for 2 hours, plane reeking of cheese steak, and only two of us weren't hungry.

That's the spirit! You have to take the offensive when dealing with travel. Plan ahead! "Hey, man. When you're done with that Philly, can I lick the paper?"

I haven't had any issues with my own solid food snacks in my carry on.

Sandwich didn't grow legs after passing through x-ray?

Typically, I just buy something at the airport after I pass security...there is always at least one restuarant open at 4am...limits choices, but hey...no worries at security. Then on the other hand...too many kids results in a large bill.

I would never eat before or on a plane for two reasons:

1. The food can be very bad (remember the plane in the 1980s that was going to I think Hong Kong and I think it was a BA flight where virtally everybody on board came down with severe food poisoning from the in-flight food). I remember reading about that in the newspapers in about 1984-1990.
2. The more you eat the more likely it is you'll have to use one of the festering flying cesspits.

You need to work on your alliteration. May I suggest the following:
Festering Flying Funkroom
Creepy Crusty Crappers
Gooey Blue Loo
