Three from Penang, Malaysia, taken over Easter at the Mutiara Resort -- and which I'm just now getting around to processing.
I like the first because of its combination of textures -- the crispy cherry-blossom-looking tree to the left with the softer palms on the right and the muted beach chair backs in the foreground for reference.

The second is interesting simply as lines and textures.

And the third is a cat... in case there was a question. He's taking a bit of shade beneath a fern.

Have a good weekend.

Don,
Nice work. Really like #2. I am not the type to get all "googly eyed" over cat or dog picts......but I am strangley drawn to the 3rd shot. Enjoy your weekend.
Cheers,
Rob

These are very nice IR pictures.
I am thinking myself of buying an IR filter for my G3, but I am not
sure the G3 is sensitive enough to IR (for my taste).
Would you mind to tell what camera and what IR filter you used ?
Regards
Jose

If you don't mind Don I will field this one for you......I owe you. Jose, you would probably have the best luck with a Hoya R72 Infrared Filter. You have to custom set the white balance with the filter on and shoot using a longer exposure. You may then have to remove more of the magenta cast in post processing. I used to convert to B&W or to a duotone. The G3 is tough to shoot infrared with. I know, I tried. Some have been more successful than I. One is Philip Ganderton. Here is one of his G3 IR shots.

Don has a Canon Powershot G1 that is modified for Infrared Capture because the "hot mirror" was replaced with clear optical glass. This enables the camera to record images at much faster shutter speeds. He used a B&W 093 IR filter for these shots, but that is not a significant piece of info because that filter works best with a modified camera.
Don, hope you don't mind me taking this one

Rob

Hi Jose,
You hang around here long enough and you forget to put down the equipment you're using. :) Robert has done a fine job of explaining things for me.
Thanks for your comments. Infrared is possible with the G3... it's just more trouble than with the G1. Besides longer shutter speeds, the G3 images often have bloom -- a lighter circle -- in the center of the photos.
Having said that, if you're determined, the Hoya R72, available from Lensmate at www.lensmateonline.com among other places, is relatively inexpensive.
Best regards,
Don

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the comments... and for jumping in. I'm happy for you to answer. As for the kitten, he was really quite attractive and amusing and the hotel staff were very tolerant of him and his family around the cafe.
Cheers,
Don

amazing pictures.
I tried infrared when I had a G2. My results were not any good. Especially because of very poor focus and hot spot in the center. So, when got a DRebel and I sold the G2, I got rid off the IR filter too, and decided never to touch IR again. At least, until I learn how to work with film.
Well, because of shots like yours, I'm thinking about getting a IR filter again. At lease, now I know that a couple of my lenses don't suffer from the hot spot problem. And one of them even has a IR index for focus adjustment.
Did you try Wratten #25 and #29 filters? I know they let a lot of visible light to get through, but I heard that people use them for film IR.
