I am still trying to decide what mass storage device to buy. Have been thinking about an X drive, but iPods have just come down in price here in OZ and I was thinking of this as alternative.
Does anyone have any experience with an ipod and the Belkin card reader? If so what do you think of it (battery life in particular)?
cheers... Rob

Too slow and eats up battery charge.
I have the belkin device that lets you connect different media to the i-pod and transfer it.
The battery fully charged does not last log enough to transfer all the files I have on my 2gig CF card and it wasn't full.
For the price there are alot better choices.

very slow from card reader to iPod, a 512MB card = 1 long-winded cup of coffee. It is good to take a break from shooting...
I also let the reader/iPod do their job while driving.
Then recharge iPod in the car....
Extremely fast though from iPod to PC or Mac. Like lightning.
My iPod takes 2,5 to 3GB before the battery runs out,
seems to be very reliable,
you don't need to lug a cable around as it is part of the Belkin reader,
the Belkin reader itself is easy on batteries

You have to wonder why Belkin didn't take advantage of the Firewire capabilities of the iPod. I have a second generation iPod somewhere, but never use it. I think it's in the same canvas bag as my FlashTrax, which I also hardly ever use.
To me, the answer has always been more CF cards and a laptop. After all, the laptop can be charged in the car, too.

 Well I think that's really poor of Apple. That was an inovative and original product that I am sure 10s of people would have been interested in!

Bit the bullet and bought an iPod today.
The 15Gb version has just been reduced from 499 to 399 OZ dollars, and Target are giving away $120 of free Belkin accesssories with it this week.
I will get the card reader soon and make up my own mind.
Thanks for the comments.
