I have two, a Manfrotto (Bogen) 484RC2, small and light on a Manfrotto 676B monopod, and a Manfrotto 322RC2 on a Manfrotto 190CLB tripod. I like them both very much. They both take the same quick release plate and that is pretty important.

Good stuff.

I have the Bogen 724B tripod with the 3299 Quick Release Plate package (paid B&H $136.00 for all including shipping). It works great.

would you guys say that a ballhead w/QR is worth the money then?

This is my first ball head. I love it. I consider it money well spent.

Definitely worth the money, but check a few out before deciding which one suits you. Particularly useful is a ballhead with separate pan lock, but these usually cost more. If you check out a few cheap ones, you will see why it is worth paying more for a good one. Smoothness is one point and a good racheted locking lever is another one.

thanks for the advice, guys. i think i'm leaning more towards the 484RC2 and i'll probably order one in the next few days unless something else happens to catch my eye.
