Hello, I love reading these forums, lots of intelligent and creative individuals here. The recent speculation on the canon's new dslr's prompted me to write this.

In my uneducated opinion five things usually affect the introduction and price of new products or, features on existing products.

1. R&D costs.
2. Manufacturing, material and shipping costs
3. Marketing costs
4. Projected sales of new item.
5. Projected sales of existing (or new) accessories for new item.

I would assume that if Canon believed they could make more profit(via lens, flash and accessory sales), gain a larger customer base and decimate the competition by manufacturing a full frame 16 MP dslr and selling it at cost to the consumer they would do it. Who could blame them? Maybe they are doing that right now. Maybe I'm an idiot (my wife would agree with that statement occasionally).

All I know is when I purchased my 10D and accessories about a year ago I was, and continue to be thrilled and amazed by the quality and creative flexibility it has brought to my passion for photography. I dream about that 16 MP, full frame, 10 fps, 1/3 dof auto focus, 40 frame buffer camera with noiseless 800 iso for $2500 CDN. Possibly in 5 years who knows?

I also know that if I spent as much time doing something to make money (delivering papers?) as I do reading photography forums I could afford a 1Ds in about a year. So get out there and improve your skills as a photographer, that will make the biggest difference in the amount of "keepers" in your portfolio.

Thanks for reading and keep up the good work.
