My first attempt to get a photo into the gallery from a new web site. This is a Sulphur Crested Galah landing on a tree in my yard in Eastern Australia. They arrive every Autumn looking for ripe seeds on our Ornamental Pear trees.
Shot with a 10D & 70-200 f2.8L at 200mm, Tv 1/500 sec, ISO 400. I think I need a 400mm zoom but at this time I'm not too keen on the 100-400L.
This is about as close as I could get to the subject, do you all think it should be a bit closer?

Lucky you, I wish they came into my yard to eat, it would be fun to get pictures of them. Where are you located?
I agree, the shot would be better if it was closer. Is it possible for you to get closer?

Hi shniks, I'm in Narara just near Gosford.
I've got some amazing shots of these beautiful birds. I'll post more when time allows.
My main concern is lenses.
Most of the gurus on this site reckon 400mm is the go for wildlife, and I reckon they're right. but i'm not keen to buy the 100-400L. Most of the postings about this lens suggest a component of dissatisfaction for the price.
I've considered the new 70-300DO but again the gurus give it some serious negatives. So, I'm not sure what to do. I think I'll wait and see if Canon redo the 100-400 with twist focus and aperture 4.0 (or better) across the the range.

Wombat,
Great shots. We don't see those birds here in Texas. Not outside of a zoo anyhow.
It may not be a true representation of the color, but I think that if you intensified the green for more color contrast, it would make better photos.
Or maybe my monitor just sucks :)
(I knew I should have upgraded to a color monitor :D )
