My son shoots xgame - extreme sports type video and wants to branch out into selling still photos. I already told him he cant have my Mk2 :? so his choices appear to be a used D60 or a new 300D. Looking for some experienced opinions!! Please help. money is an issue and 10D wont fit budget.
Another Question: does the 300D 'hack' improve the autofocus?

Doing some research on used d30's for my girlfriend i'm starting to wonder why i didnt go the d60 route. It is cheaper and the d60 offers more/better features for the amature sports shooter which i'd like to think i am.

I do not regret my purchase of the 300d, dont get me wrong...the image quality and ease of use of this camera is great.

The d60 however has a larger buffer, the wheel, AI servo (key!), and hey, it's black.

The "standard" 300d has better low light AF than the D60. If you are talking about AF modes, yes, the hack adds AI Servo and OneShot, but AI Servo needs a trick to work (depress and fullpress the shutter to actually take the pictures).
The other main complaint of the D60 vs 300D is ISO sensitivity. If ISO 1000 is enough for you, and the AF is good enough for you, you will be fine with the D60. If you need ISO 1600 (or 3200 with the hack) or a better AF, go for the 300D.

Thanks for the help. Based on your responses, and the fact that I have seen D60's as low as $500 on Ebay I think we will try that first.

Dont get me wrong, i'm not saying the 300D isnt a better camera. Thats to be expected, it's newer. But the D60 is a great camera to start at and lets you get a good lens too.

I hate giving this advice with anything that is electronic, but i think it is a safe bet that canon will anounce a replacement to the 10D in september...it may be worth it to stick it out and wait until then and see if the 10d prices drop.

if you can have a good price for a used one, take it,
it is better built than 300d and it will give you very good picture with good lenses

The big question is how much better will the new 10D be? Is it worth saving for the new 10D or better deal to get a reduced in price brand new 10D :)
