Its a great image Owen, but IMO I feel that its somewhat spoiled by the soother in the child's mouth. However, saying all that, it does make the image look cute but still I'd have prefered it without.

Great soft light for the child.

Recently I "Photoshoped" a friend's image of father, mother, an son. We too concluded that the soother detracted from an otherwise outstanding image.

I agree with the sother being a distraction. I thought #1 has a better composure than the 2nd.
