Sports photo is hard

Ok. I will post some of my photos but let me tell you that doing a running event was very hard for me..I used a canon 20d with a non is 70-200...well, I rented the lens and never had used it before. My photos were not as sharp as I had hoped... The sun was very bright but were I was shoting i did have some shade. I used manuel. 2.8- with 250-350 shutterspeeed at 400IS...ok should I have shot on tv or what...when I post them on the web page I will send a photo...help...I think that to do a sport like that it takes practice..hope tohear..widget

I use the 70-200 f/2.8 ISL all the time for cross country. In bright sunlight I stop it down to about 6.3.
