I'm going to be shooting a fundraiser at a "Boston Symphony Hall" this place is big, and its not very bright. I'll have a 70-200 2.8 L IS, 24-70L 2.8 and 50mm f1.2 L and my 580ex 2 flash. anyways, what do you suggest for the flash and everything, i dont do alot of flash photography, should i bounce off the ceiling or aim right at the people? I will people shooting pretty close to them ,and their will be a VIP party after. Here is what the place looks like

there are rooms on the outside of the hall too where people will be, thats where im most concerned about my flash direction. Please help me out!

If you're shooting in that area, bouncing flash will not be an option as the the flash simply will not have enough power to provide the coverage you need. The flash isn't going to reach the ceiling and provide any significant illumination of an area that large. Remember, light intensity drops off as the square of the distance it travels....in smaller rooms where the ceiling is a reasonable height, a Stofen diffuser and the flash set to a 45 degree angle will work pretty well for people photography.

An overexposed image at 1/20s; f/2 at ISO 200 is "not very bright"?

Dear god.
Have a look in the Performing Arts section...

Anyways. Do *not* use flash. for the 'performing' part. Use high ISO. (800 or 1600)

For the 'party' part, I'ld shoot with a widish lens (that would be the 24-70 in your case), high ISO and a moderate shuterspeed to allow some ambient in, f/4 to f//5.6 for a bit DoF, and bounce the flash off whatever posible.

Then you should link to it ;)

A tripod or monopod might come in handy for the event.

The 'party' bit, I'ld treat like a nightclub shoot: Click (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=382792&highlight=night+club), Click (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3590067&postcount=3)
