I was wondering if anyone could help me learn how to sell some pictures. I am not looking to invest a lot of time or money, but I am not really trying to make any money either. I just want to see if they will well. I recently signed up for an artbeacon website. I am not even sure if I did it correctly. I am also not sure if anyone will even ever see my pictures there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My website on artbeacon is http://www.artbeacon.com/jaskowiak/

Any comments are appreciated.

I must have broken some record for most views without a reply.

Let me play Devil's Advocate for a second.

Why would anybody feel compelled to give you any of their hard-earned cash for some photo that took you a few seconds to snap?

Think about that.

Just because it took you some time or energy to shoot doesn't make it worthy of being purchased.

Step 1. Get a large degree of experience under your belt.

Step 2. Get your toe in the water, first by showing your stuff in a non-commercial situation (to friends, a club, etc.). Slowly you will learn what is really good and what is not. Try a photo contest.

Step 3. Get another large degree of experience under your belt.

Step 4. Get your foot in the water by offering your stuff for sale in some local setting. For example, a local Arts & Crafts Fair.

Step 5. Get another large degree...

Step 1: I know the basics
Step2:I show my pictures to friends all of the time. I have entered into a few newspaper photo contests and I won two. (Same pic - I won weekly and for the month contest) I still enter all of my favorite pictures that I like. The last one that I entered I didn't like but my friends really did like it. I still havn't sold my first picture (if you don't count the contests).
Step 3: I have just started this by finding what I like to take pictures of and I am reading up on these areas of photography on the internet
That is just me but maybe that will give you the idea. :?

Edited

I have always responded to things like that in forums by using bold or diffrent color text. Maybe I should of said the blue was mine. :?

Penguin_101_1, you added a lot of words to my quote that I never said.

I think he was responding to several of your points within the quote, instead of outside it. I'm assuming that's what the blue text is, at least. :?

Nathan, your photos are great! However, it may be hard to sell pictures online simply on the hope that someone will stumble across them and want some. Perhaps you could have a card made with your name and website printed on it. Then if you show someone a picture you could also direct them to your site.

That is not the right way to do it. This creates misquotes.

It's easy, Bob:

You're speaking black, and he's speaking blue. I think I'll speak red.

(Of course, Marie speaks purple.)

It all makes perfect sense to me.

Everyone should be assigned a color! I call blue!

Nathan… Artbeacon seems to be a reasonable place to start, better than many sites curiosity has taken me to (and for what my opinion is worth, you seem to have set up the service correctly).

and for the rest of the thread… is Paisley taken?

Not bad of a site there man :) Do you mind if I ask what shopping cart are you using? My client is using paypal, but not that happy with the lack of certain options in their automatic shopping cart.

Also do you print those pictures yourself or do you use a service?

Thanks,
Chad.

I am a bit confused about how the billing works. I think the customer can either use paypal or can send me a check. I have used paypal to pay for things, but never to receive money. I was planning if I get any orders, to use use winkflash.com and order the print and just use the customer's address to send the photo.

I'm not sure if that's a good idea, sending prints from printer directly to customer. Wouldn't you want to inspect the "merchandize" to make sure it's OK and not "damaged". After all, you have your reputation at stake here.

you're probably right. i guess i will have to change my policy. has anyone else used winkflash. it seems to be great quality to me and incredibly cheap. with no shipping charges also.

How long have you had your artbeacon site running? Is it paying off for you?

Step 5. Get another large degree...

Step 6. Do a Forum search. That topic has been covered at least 2 times in the last 6 months.
