I am concerned about my Sigma (NOW WITH THE PIC!)

My sigma doesn't quite look like the one in the pic. It's the same lens with all the same labels.

But the finish is different. BH sigma looks more like a metal/crystalline finish while my sigma looks like it was coated with rubber.

Why is it like that? Which version is newer? What's happening? I'm worried. :(

Actually, all the Sigma lenses I've seen have a finish more like the one you describe on your lens. I've always thought the pictures were not truly representative of the lens' actual appearance. I found the finish to be smoother than what the photos would suggest.

Thats odd, I have the lense pictured? did they make two types of this lense, because I have seen the 70-200 f28 EX with different rings.. physically.

Doc,. can you post a Pic of YOUR lens.. the one in the B&H catalog looks like the lens I owned.

There was an earlier version of the lens in question.. but I don't think it said "EX" on it...

It's the same lens for sure.. I just think the catalogue pic makes it look a little diffferent in texture. The B7H almost looks like the "flecks" have been oversharpended or something.. My lenses the 'flsecks" are barely visible from a distance.

I personally love the Sigma "zen" finish as it is called.

It is dark so it doesn't attract as much attention,. and I like the feel of it. Canon's feel "slippery" by comparison... where as the Sigma's have a texture that helps with keeping a good grip. I also prefer black to white.. but that is an unpopular personal opinion here on this forum :roll:

That looks exactly like my wife's Sigma 70-200. It is the latest EX model. It has that horrible texture, as do most Sigma lenses.

I got this lens with a good discount and was worried that maybe they gave me a 6 year old model or something. Really paranoid. :oops:

This particular lens is the "EX" replacement for an older version.. the old lens was heavier,. a diffferent color.. "EX" did not exist yet,. nor did the "HSM" focus motor... it looked and behaved a lot differently.. but the "glass" may have been the same... or minor changes anyway.

Too funny,. I like the texture,. Kenny hates it! :)

Ahh well,. I like "liver" too,. the texture never bothered me :P

I like the texture cuz it has a heavy duty industrial type fel. the canons feel like crap metal. Not to mention they scratch and get dirty too easily.
