Good shot. Nice dof. What lens did you use?

How do you focus that fast?

Or were you preset on the focus, just waiting (hoping) for the action to come into focus range?

Great action shot.

I'm sure the young man's parents would absolutely love this pic, and I
do , too, as a portrait. But as a photojournalist I most certainly would
have widened the DOF to get as much focus as possible. It's an
interesting shot to me because I never would have thought of shooting
him this way.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. To answer all your questions...

1. Kit lens at f3.5 1/100 ISO800

2. I see that you're using a Pro 1...I can tell you that the 300D focuses quite a bit faster. I was not pre-focused...but I did predict that the player would come my way and positioned/framed a second or two ahead of time.

3. Would that be the photojournalism way? I never really made any distinction between the two styles but that's just me...and I'm a n00b. :)

Great shot...I really like how it violates the norms of the 'action shot'.

refreshing.
