Is it ok to leave rechargable batteries in the camera when not using it, or should I always remove them afterwards?

thanks

I have my IXUS300 for 3 years now, never removed the batteries, except for charging them : No Problem
Same with my G3 (for 1 year)

You have to define how long a period it is that you are talking about and the type of battery.

In general if you are not using the camera for lets say a week no problem. If you are not going to use the camera for greater than a month then yes, remove the battery.

All batteries will self discharge over time, it is always a good idea to "top" off your battery before you are going to use the camera if possible, providing the battery is of the NiMh, Li-ion style. If it is Ni-cad then the battery should be completely discharged prior to re-charging.

Your manual should tell you about how the camera should be stored.

Cheers, they are AA size NiMh ones I believe.
They've been in there for 2 weeks, havent used them up yet otherwise they would be in the charger.
Pretty sure the manual says to remove the batteries, but I wasnt sure if I should take it seriously or not.

I don't think it will harm the cam if the batteries stay in it longer than necessary.
Non-rechargeable batteries will begin to leak after some time and the acid that's caming out will corrodate the contacts.
But rechargeables normally don't leak.
I've had rechargeables in my baby's toys for two years without using them. I took them out (they were empty of course), recharged them again, no problem. The toy hadn't suffered neither.

So except leakage from non-rechargeables, I've never had any problems with leaving batteries in any electronic device.

Great thanks for the help, I think I'll leave them in, they'll run out before too long anyway. :)

Cheers![/quote]
