Which camera is the better purchase they are approximatly the same price. On the canon web site there is only a few small differences, not knowing any thing about cameras can't tell which is better. I know the IXUS is small but do you lose quality?
From reading here the A80 is better than the A85 is it better than the 430

Quality from the 430 is truly brilliant for such a compact camera.
The trade off for the small size v the A80 is controllability. The A80 gives you the possibility for more manual control over the camera.
It really depends how into photography you are. If you prefer to just point and shoot, then the control of the camera isn't a big deal (and the 430 gives you some control anyway, it's just a pain to use).
The A80 also uses off the shelf batteries (AAs), which can be a big benefit in the field.
That said, I have a 430 to compliment my 10D SLR. The size of the 430 means it gets carried almost everywhere and some of the images from it match the 10D to all intents and purposes.

Yea I agree with that, I Wish I havent Sold my S400 , but it would have been a great P&S compliment to my Rebel.
