i need to photograph the mrs engagement ring for insurance purposes
what is the best way to get a good picture of it all i have is 400d kenko tubes, 75-300 and the nifty fifty
best i could do with my old ps a85

will give it a go whats the best way to light the ring ? id imagine flash would just be far too much and its not exactly bright in northern england in october so how can i improvise ?

For insurance purposes, that shot posted is good enough. They're not gonna care if it doesn't look like an image out of a catalog.

will make a softbox can get 500w work lights for about £5.50 so about $11 not bad for ripoff Britain lol

You'll get better results if you take it out of the ring box also. I use "blu tac" to hold em up. Generally you need a very very small amount just under the shank. Read your manual on the 400d and set a custom white balance. (if you make a lightbox, just take a picture of the white background for the picture you use to set it).
