Hi
I've just fitted a 58mm UV filter and Canon clip on lens cap to my Pro1. Has anyone yet worked out a good method of fixing a retaining cord, I'd be grateful if you would share the method with me.
thanks

If I understand you correctly, you mean the squeeze release cap that comes with the camera. I stick it in my pocket. Having it swing around on a cord, like the G3/5 cap, would drive me nuts. But no, I don't see any practical way to attach a Pro 1 cap to a cord that would be neat and not interfere with it's use. You could drill a hole in the front of the cap, thread the cord through and knot it, but the knot will probably rub on the lens and that doesn't sound like a good idea.

You say you have now fitted a UV filter. Most people use that for camera lens protection, so I don't see the point of using the cap too. :?

I'm pretty sure I've seen lens caps with stings or cords attached that you can tether them to the camera with, and maybe even the cords by themselves. I'll try and remember to stop by the store on my way home tonight and verify. I'm pretty sure they have a sticky pad at one or both ends with adhesive that you attach to the camera and/or lens cap. But I usually just hold my caps or put them in my pocket or bag as well, and always figured a cap hanging from my camera would be annoying. So I never paid much attention to these.

I went to B&H's site to see if I could find any of these. No luck, but here's an interesting option (two versions, same basic concept):

Ha! I have the OpTech Fast Cap on a adapter for a G5. I can use it on my Pro 1 LA-DC58C adapter too, but it can't be used directly on the camera. The Fast Cap is quite good, but you must be sure that when it is open it doesn't block the AF sensor or get in your way. Takes a little getting used too, but it does keep the dirt out and protect the lens.

Both of the OpTech caps are 58mm, so they can be screwed into the UV filter, the thin Pro 1 filter adapter or LA-DC58C.

Thanks Scott K and John_T for the responses. You are right John I've fitted the UV for protection however I want to keep the surface of the filter clean and so the need for a cap, I bought a 58mm squeeze release cap and it fits fine over the UV filter.
I have considered the 'cord kits' with the self adhesive ends that would be OK for the cap end, but the problem is where to retain the other end. Clearly fixing onto the camera body would require a fairly lengthy cord to facilitate the zoom of the lens. I thought of drilling a very small hole in the side of the filter holder to 'fix' the other end of the cord. But I don't feel too happy about doing that as it's not the best piece of engineering design to start with and a hole, however small, must weaken the plastic lens mount.
I'll just try and remember not to lose the cap - but I usually do!
Thanks again.
