Just recieved the unit. it transfers the cards to the HDD fine, but
transfers to the PC seem interminable - I have USB 2.0.
Plus I can't open the folders..I can see them but not open them.
Thinking seriously about returning the vosonic and going for a portable CDR unit.

Can you copy stuff to the drive from windows then see it OK?
What is the file system on the drive?

It takes ages.... too long to be a serious piece of equipment,
sometimes windows reports parameter or i/o problems, the file system
is FAT32?..either way the files do not open, I get the 'hourglass'. :-(

Are you sure that you did a complete format on the portable drive before you tried to use it?

It came formatted complete with HDD, windows XP confirms its a FAT32 drive.
I have been reading elsewhere that the x-drive's transfer to one's PC
are really slllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwww. :-(

I wouldn't necessarily blame the Vosonic. There are sooooo many factors that could be the problem. Is your system setup as NTSF or FAT32? Is your USB on your system setup correct. I can go on and on, but the best place to look is at Vosonics website for tech suppport.

I have a vosonic but i bought it without the drive. After i installe the harddrive i formatted it and i've never had any problems with opening the files. Windows treats the drive like any external hard drive.
After saving your pics try formatting the drive again.
With regards to the slow transfer i have to agree it could be better :)

transfer speed from my 2060 isn't a problem, icons moving quickly while i grab a beer, sometimes i find it difficult to locate the drive under my computer once done not a problem. I don't use the drive that much so i forget what i did last time !

I thank you all for your advice and comments...My host drive is
FAT32 albeit 7200rpm, perhaps the installed vosonic drive can't keep up?
Anyone, I have decided to return the Vosonic, I'll phone the suppliers
tomorrow.
Windows XP won't even let me format the Vosonic's drive...alarm bells?

I'd be inclined to suspect a bad hard drive (in the Vosonic).

Windows XP no longer allows formatting of FAT32 drives, mounted on USB. You have to use an older (win98, for instance) version of Windows, or use the format utility you can download from Vosonic's site.
Also, I've found that certain USB chipset/drivers in certain desktop systems don't play nicely with Vosonic units. I am one of the unfortunates, in that an ASUS P4E motherboard I have just simply craps out everytime I try to use my Vosonic with it. Other systems I've tried it on have worked flawlessly.
Go figure...

I have a Via chipset, perhaps the fitted drive in the Vosonic is slower
than my PC's HDD (7200 with 8mb buffer)? I don't want to open in order
to discover for warranty reasons.
It's going back today, I have a gut feeling I am in for a 'battle' with the suppliers. :-(

Tried it once again before packing. Would you believe it works fine
from 'stone cold'? Well it loads the first 20 images then it fails to load anymore.
Curiouser and curiouser...

I doubt if this will be of any benefit in this case, but Volsonic does post firmware updates on their website to fix problems with their products.
I had a problem with my X Drive 300 in that it would not read my Sandisk Memory Stick Pro's. They posted a fix for the problem after I complained to them. The sad thing is that I had to find out about the fix via one of these forums. They wouldn't reply to my emails except to tell me to contact my vendor about the problem!!! They weren't even considerate enough to inform me of the fix!
The vendor didn't even know the problem existed, much less how to fix it!

Thanks! Your experience reinforces my view that I am in for a
'battle'
