I wasnt sure which spot to put this, it's Travel & Landscapes, but the kayaking is a sport, I almost felt it should go in that category. Moderator feel free to move it if you need to.

We were lucky enough to get one day of calm water this late in the season while traveling through this area. Everyone we talked with told us not to go out because of the cold temperatures of Lake Superior this time of year, but we had a calm warm day, and decided to rent wet suits from a local outfitter.

This shoreline is lined with beautiful caves that are begging to be paddled through. The water is crystal clear and for this one day, quite calm with only 1-2 foot rollers coming in. It was calm enough that we could time them as to not be caught close to a wall when a set would come rolling in.

Once in the caves, the water was glassy calm, and quite deceiving. We plan on coming back here in the summer when Superior can be glassed over for multiple days in a row. We'll try and paddle out to some of the surrounding islands which are loaded with photo opportunities and wild animals. Bear, Wolves, and Eagles are some of the varous wildlife you're sure to see.

Try not to laugh, but I only wanted to bring the 30D with the Fisheye lens incase I tipped over. I was too worried to bring the 1D with the 28-200"L" and I dont have an underwater housing for either of these cameras yet. So you can understand in my disapointment when we had a huge bald eagle fly over us and land in a tree. He sat watching us trying to decide if we were a meal or just some stupid humans scarying away his dinner.

I put the arrow to show where he was sitting in the tree. Cindy called me a dork for even including this shot, but I love eagles and was happy to see one.

And one last one to show how clear and calm the water was while in one of the caves

Enjoy, and hope you like them

Excellent images and I bet it was a blast up there.

BTW having been to Lake Superior quite a few times I can vouche that there are really not any "warm water" days as the water is always cold.

That looks incredible...and ur eagle....it's ummmm....really nice. So, where exactly were you on Superior? Great shots by the way!

Yeah, we've paddled all around the big lake and have never found a spot where the water is warm, no matter what time of year. We were there one time in July with 90 degree heat, and Superior was still to cold to get all the way in.

The Apostle Islands, which is in the North East Corner of Wisconson, just across the border from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. That whole area is beautiful. We were sitting around our campfire at night listening to the coyote's howl.

You could probably spend a few months there and not see it all.

The dust spots on #4, are bigger than the eagle in #3!

I think it's particularily funny because I did the exact same thing last March in Mexico. I could see the look on my wife's face like 'you idiot'....something like that...maybe she meant 'you're incredible', but I'm leaning toward the first one.

what did you do to protect the camera?

Prayed that a wave didnt come and knock me over:D Nothing really, I guess I just got cocky. I really want to get one of those EWA bags to put it in, but no camera place I have been in has one.

So in less I want to mail order it and then have it overnighted to me, I looks like I take some chances. We're on the road full time and get all our mail forwarded to us from our PO Box when ever we find a campground for a few days.

Wow, I just went to your trip site, and I'm very jealous of what you're doing. My wife and I love road trips and are hoping to do something similar when we're a bit older and our kids can travel... If you don't mind me asking, are you making money somehow while on the trip, or is it all funded ahead of time and just a trip until you need to make more money? Either way it sounds awesome, and we aspire to do something similar in out future. How do you find living on the road like that? I've grown up doing similar things with my parents on boats... My wife and I prefer the road to the ocean simply because the issues that come up are easier to handle and less expensive (but still not cheap).

Thanks for the inspiration!
Check out my roadtrip site if you want to see where we've been.

Hey Ben, thanks for checking out the site. I looked through yours and we're going to have to add that Canadian trip to our long listf places to see. It looks like you guys had a blast and got some great shots!!

RIght now we dont make any money while traveling, we just tend to spend a ton of it...LOL We're trying to work on a few different sponsors in the RV World, but it's hard to get in contact with anyone who makes those decisions. All seem interested, but they tend to just give you the run-around when it comes to actually making a decision. We had sold everything...House, Business..All Belongings and thought we would be on the road for two years, but now know that it'll be more like 5. There is just too much to see. So once our original 2 years worth of savings is spent up, we'll have to find out how to keep going.

I'm the type that thinks if you love what you're doing, something will come along and allow it to keep happening. So I just keep going, and hopefully in a few years time, we'll figure something out that will allow us to keep the ball rolling. The boat thing really intrigues me, as that is where we would like to end up. On a sail boat in the Virgin Islands. That too will come some day, it just takes time!!

Thanks for looking man, happy travels

If you're wondering about money after 2 years on dry land, DON'T get into the boat thing... (Boat = Break Out Another Thousand, or a hole in the water into which you pour money...) My parents do this on their boat and have cruised the entire carribean down to Grenada each winter for the last 9 years. I setup a blog for them, check it out (they've yet to update anything, but this fall most of the 9 years worth of journals should make it on there  ):

No worries. For now I'll have to live vicariously through you!!! Enjoy it while it lasts. If you ever do get to that part of Canada let me know if you need any help. Labrador with you trailer will be AWESOME. It's 3 days of solid driving to get to hotels, but with your rig you could just pull over anywhere for the night and enjoy the solitude.
