i took about 720 photos the other day, but i found something strange with file numbering. on camera, it's set to continuous, after i downloaded all the images to my Mac, it jumped from 801G0635.tif to 801G4599.tif, i did switch couple of cards within the session, but i highly doubt that would be the reason why.
anyone, any ideas?

Can you track the numbers back to the original cards? With my D60, I found that even a non-Canon image subdirectory under the DCIM directory will shift the numbering the camera uses. And if there is a higher-numbered Canon subdirectory/fileset on one card, it'll almost certainly cause a jump.

801G is the unique identifier and the following 4 digits are the file number. I suspect it picked something up when you changed cards. Put back the card with the lower number and see what you get.
At least format all your cards in a reader. You can re-set the counter if the number jump bothers you.

...and if you are bothered about re-setting to where you should have been, take a photo - CF card into reader and use explorer to rename both DCIM sub-folder and file to where you want to restart from. CF card to camera and Bob's your uncle
