Hi
I am off on holiday to Alaska in a week or so, spending some initial time in Anchorage.
I was wondering if anyone might know of a good photo equipment shop there.
The reason I ask is that I dont get to the USA often (live in UK) and things are quite a bit cheaper in the USA than in the UK, things like filters, flashes, etc. and I wanted to buy a few things for my G3.
I know it s long shot (no pun intended) but if anyone has been to or lives in Anchorage then any info would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Things are definately NOT cheap there. They have a vey high cost of living. I never went to a camera shop when I was there, but I doubt that it was inexpensive.

Whatever you need, get it THERE in Anchorage. Noplace else has anything....except mosquitos. Oh, should anyone ask you... the State Flower of Alaska is a Rusty Fifty Gallon Drum.... Have a beer in the Captain Cook, for me...

Aw, c'mon, that's not nice! The state flower is the Forget-me-not. However, the state bird is, in fact, the mosquito.

Ah, yes... The Great Land.... Did you know that on the Island of Attu, there is no 'gravity' ?
On a slightly more serious note, I once read an article in Alaska Sportsman that did, in fact, flatly declare that the mass of all mosquitos, compressed...would far exceed the mass of all caribou...compressed..... 'North Slope' lore I suppose. No caribou South of the Brooks Range.

Right ... thanks guys ..... that was very helpful.
I know that Alaska is more $$ than the rest of USA ... but its still much cheaper than UK !!
Mossies ..... I eat them for breakfast !! ... or is it the other way around ?!?

You will have a good time up there. I don't know where you are going, but likely you will not be going out onto the Aleutian Chain...nor the somewhat barren lands of the North and West Coasts... Precious little there. Otherwise, a lovely place. Costs there used to be tremendously more than in The Lower Forty-Eight...but the last time I was up there, the difference didn't seem as much....
Have a lot of fun.....
