Hi everyone. I just wanted to thank everyone here that gives some great tips and information. I am new to SLR photography. I have a Canon AE1 35mm but havn't touched since I got my first digital camera which was a Kodak(Not an SLR) about 5 years ago (I'm im into instant gratification! LOL) My 35mm took such great shots in auto, and I was a busy mom with young kids etc that I didn't bother to learn about aperture, shutterspeeds etc. Now I have my Rebel and I'm reading everything I can get my hands on. I know I have a TON to learn but have picked up a lot of great tips.
I have posted a couple pics before..but would like input..any and all comments are welcomed and wanted..
my galleries are at http://upload.pbase.com/navywidow
I know my waterfalls need more work. I am still working on this...Well..actually a lot needs a lot of work..so if you experts are bored and would like to look through..please do!

Welcome Cindy. Although this forum is more geared toward the camera and lenses, you've got some nice shots in your gallery. Keep up the good work: we all learn as we go.

I'll second that.
I'm not much of a flower photo lover, but your rose is stunning.

Thanks Barry, that is actually my very favorite picture. They were an very nice older couple that stopped to talk to us on the beach and I snapped it as they were walking away. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get a name and address from them...I think they may have enjoyed that picture.
Thanks for all the comments guys. You are all the experts..I learn from you!

Hi Cindy,
I've just had another look at 'Forever Love' - excellent title, their pose makes you think (a must for a good image), nice subtle tones and diffusion in the background. Brilliant!
Your waterfalls? A little too central in the frame for my taste, and the shutter speed could have been a little longer to show a bit more motion in the water.IMHO
Oh yes, welcome to the best, most knowledgeable and friendly forum on the planet.
Cheers,
Barry

Hi Cindy
Welcome. I agree that you are not a NOOB.
I seldom make comments to other photos, especially I'm no expert with poor English. (And it's not critique forum...) Since you asked, I'd like to know if you use tripod in your waterfalls and flower photos?

Actually, on most of the waterfalls, no I didn't use a tripod. My tripod was cheesy and forgot it and left it at home. I mostly used a fence post or something when I could (hubbys head, haha) I did use my cheep tripod on a couple of the Silver falls. I have since bought a much better one and yes, I did use it on the flowers with the black backgrounds.

You know what I'm going to say -- "tripod"... And I'm sure you know the difference.
Sometimes you can try to use smaller aperture for wider depth of field (instead of high ISO + large aperture). The tripod will help you.
Enjoy your shooting.
