Need some advise in deciding to purchase the Canon 24-70 with my Canon XT 350. Currently using a Canon 28-135 IS USM for my wedding shot and a Tamron 20-50 SP lens for close up. I'm ready to purchase this lens now that I have the money for it. Has anyone encounter problem with this set up?

It's not wide enough at times as a primary lens. Your best bet is with the 17-55 IS if you have a crop body.

I agree - from personal experience, the 24 end won't be wide enough if you're in a small venue. The 17-55 would be a better choice.....a Tamron 17-50 if you're on a budget.

If your budget is limited, I shot a wedding with the 17-85 IS and while the flash work could have been better, the lens performed well enough.

Thanks everyone,
I wasing eyeing on tamron 17-50 as an alternate choice. I know that everyone has problem shooting wedding back in the state due to flash photography restriction. Here in the island of Guam in the pacific area, the church are large with no restriction to flash photography. I like to have that reach just to keep myself from blocking people view during the wedding ceremony. Venue area in the church within the island is not a problem. But venue within the party area such as hotel reception can be challenging when the space is tight. I notice that people were having problem with the 17-55, which is why I didn't ask for this particular lens. Please advise.

17-55 has had some problems, but few people would give the lens up. 17-85 I find to be horrible, poor contrast and not sharp - I tried 2 copies. If you're ok with 24mm and want length i'd try the 24-105 F4L, just raise your ISO a stop and you're good. Depends how much of your work is in dark churches.

Tim,
Thanks for the suggestion. All the church here in Guam have alot of window for natural lighting (Tropical Weather). I think, when I purchase the Canon 24-70 I can get away without using flash so the people can concentrate on the wedding ceremony instead of me. Just have to make sure my elbow is tuck into my body with the camera steady when I take those shot.

I shoot with a crop body (40D) and the 24-70. I've never had an issue with being limited to 24mm on the wide end, and I have shot and 2nd shot more than 20 weddings. If I ever did have an issue I have a 10-22mm in my bag...
So, for me personally, it is a great combo! :-)

If you got tons of light all the time then use whatever lens you want. I've had a lot of great success even with the 17-85. it's quite pretty at 5.6, and beautiful at f/8... it was even sharper than my 24-70 at f/8. Back when I was using that lens I routinely set aperture to 5.6 and used flash. It worked quite well. I'm sure you can do similar with your 28-135. If you have lots of space, lots of light, and don't need to shoot wide very often then the 24-105 is a nice choice.
But me personally, I would go with the 17-55. But it sounds like you don't want to use it.

I have the 24-70L as my main lens on my 1D Mark II and it delivers wonderful results.
On a 1.6 crop body you lose the wides (38.4mm - 112 mm).
The lens has the nick name "The brick" as it weights nearly 1 kg, more than your XT body.

I guess it all depends on your style... I have had the 24-70 for quite some time and loved it on my 30D, but I love it even more on the 5D.

If you do get it. And you won't be disappointed. It will be the begining of "L" fever. BTW, before I got my 30D I shot with an XT and my 24-70.
